I read an article on Yahoo, but it's written by an AP sports writer. It talks about the Newt at the Panther workouts. Apparently, he's made quite the impression. Particularly on the vets. Quotes after the jump. You can read the article here which has some pretty interesting things to say.
Beason: He showed up every day early. He’s working hard. He’s interacted well and he’s shown some great leadership.
This from Gross: Cam has really just come in and kind of kept quiet. He had fun with the guys and tried to fit in and earn respect and doing things right. He’s thrown some great passes, gotten under center, been vocal with his cadence when we’ve done our team offense stuff. Overall, he’s just shown he’s in shape and willing to work hard.
That's what we want to hear about our future leader. According to the article, he seems he's in pretty good shape as he doesn't really show signs of fatigue by the end of practice. Which is impressive in this heat.
the Newt on throwing to The Rules and Regulations: When I throw a three-step drop or an out-route, I’ve got to get back real fast to get it to him extremely quick because he’s that explosive as a player.
I get the feeling that the Newt has reached out to Smith. Hopefully that will help convince him to want to stay.
He's saying the right things about getting ready too
Preparing as a quarterback in the NFL is completely different. The terminology, the blitz schemes, and at the end of the day, you’re not playing freshmen anymore. You’re playing grown men. This where speed comes into play at all times.
Finally, I really respect how even though the Newt was flying out to meet the President on Wednesday afternoon, he was at practice Wednesday morning, then back again on Thursday to be at the last practice. That a good sign of dedication.
