National Football Post: Steve Smith interested in Chargers, Others.

Hey y'all,

I just saw this pop up. I'm not sure of the validity of this article supposedly coming from the San Diego Union-Tribune, but with all of the recent chatter it definitely raises an eyebrow. The short blip at http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Steve-Smith-interested-in-Chargers-others.html reads:

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has made it clear that he wants a change of scenery and has requested a trade.

That includes potential destinations like the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and the Baltimore Ravens.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers are monitoring the situation, which was likened to how the AFC West club started out with safety Bob Sanders(notes) prior to signing him.

Smith has caught 52 career touchdown passes.

The Chargers and Raiders would seem to make more sense for Smith as a possible link than Baltimore, which has Anquan Boldin(notes), Derrick Mason(notes) and drafted two wide receivers: Torrey Smith(notes) and Tandon Doss(notes).

If this is so, I really don't really understand why he'd want to leave Carolina to join a perennial choker like San Diego or just a pure disaster of an organization in Oakland. The Chargers do have a more than capable offense and would be even more explosive with a guy like Smith. All of that aside, their offense hasn't been able to carry the team through the defensive meltdown they face on their way to missing the playoffs. Oakland... well, I guess they won 8 games last season. Bah, I hardly see them as being a better option than Carolina. Ughhh, I don't know. I think I just want to see him finish his career as a Panther and I'll say anything to justify it.
