Panthers Steve Smith Reveals Unreported 2010 Injury

Stay connected for news and updates

No, don't worry it's nothing major like another broken arm, this report actually relates to this past season which i found to be interesting. Sorry if this is old news (I'm only on this website sporadically). According to cbs sports smith was actually injured for most of 2011 season but didn't mention anything to the coaching staff. Typical smitty I can see him being stubborn as hell but it also shows the amount of heart this man has to play through the pain despite of year we were having and despite the number of starters that went on IR, Smith refused to give up.

More after the jump...

This was only somewhat surprising to me we all saw how #89 did not look anywhere near his normal self and yes part of that was due to the QB situation as well as the O-line protection but something something with smitty specifically looked odd dropping wide open passes, getting caught from behind from DE's etc...I knew something had to be up.

The following is from Pro Football Weekly:

He said in the report he played through a quad pull, a left leg injury and a rolled ankle for much of the season but never mentioned it — not even to the training staff, until they could tell something was not right. "They were like, 'What's going on? You're limping.' It just kind of spiraled from there," he said. "Did I lose a step? Anyone would lose a step when you're playing on one leg. I just tried to play through it, and ultimately I looked slow. Instead of 31 (years old), I looked 41. Instead of coming out and gathering myself and taking a backseat, I tried to play through it — and it backfired."

Hopefully this means Smith has 2-3 more years of being the receiver we all know he is capable of being and keeps his talents here with us in Carolina.  I would like to see any receiver try to execute his cuts with a rolled ankle. Any thoughts?

Editors Note: Lots of good other info in this piece.
