Hat tip to ERL for the fanshot on this.I'm running a little behind these days and trying to catch up.
Since being drafted in the 5th round last season Panther fans have been wondering exactly where Eric Norwood would eventually play. He's a natural DE but a bit smallish by NFL standards to play DE in a 4-3. During his rookie season the Panthers tried him at LB as well as DE wondering if he was athletic enough for the position. Ron Rivera has made it clear apparently, Norwood will play end and rush the passer:
Eric Norwood, who played linebacker and defensive end as a rookie, will play defensive end exclusively for Ron Rivera's staff. It's not a big change -- most of Norwood's game snaps last year came at DE -- but it does get Norwood back to his best position.
"At the end of the day, I'm a pass-rusher. That's who I am," said Norwood, South Carolina's all-time leader in sacks and tackles for loss.
He was a damn good pass rusher at that. He had an uncanny ability to get the QB, something he yet to unleash at the Pro level. I'm betting new Panther DC Sean McDermott finds a way to utilize this guys talents.
