I hate this labor issue, you hate this labor issue... we all hate this labor issue. In fact, for someone to enjoy this lockout they would have to be some sort of extreme sadomasochist with a penchant to flagellate themselves legal briefs, nevertheless we do have a little bit of information from today.
The NFL and NFLPA returned to Judge Doty's court in Minnesota today to return to the issue of the TV funds. The players are asking for a big number, a huge number and we'll look at that...
After the jump
Initially the NFL argued that the $6.9 million in damages already awarded are sufficient for this case, but the NFLPA have other ideas. The players are asking for damages at a minimum of $707 million, but the are actually asking for that $707 million, plus the Red Zone money, plus the extra game NBC pays for each year and then want that figure multiplied by three (for damages) which makes the total... ready for it?
The NFLPA are ostensibly asking Doty to grant almost all of the $4.07 billion currently held in escrow to the NFLPA, with almost nothing going to the NFL. Legal analysts feel that ultimately Doty will give the players more than $707 million, but not the entire $4 billion they're asking for.
From here the NFL would appeal and the world keeps turning.
