You might recall back on March 7th I put together and posted a Composite Big Board of the top 14 draft picks ranked using an average of several big boards from nationally known pundits. I'm here today with an update that includes discussion of the top risers and fallers since the initial composite board was issued.
CB Patrick Peterson has climbed from 3rd to the top of the board. That is not too surprising given the surge he received from the combine.
Surprisingly for Panther fans QB Cam Newton is actually dropping in average rank despite the growing number of insiders saying he will be selected #1. Obviously many pundits remain unconvinced Newton is worth a top 10 pick much less the #1 overall.
We will look at the other changes in the rankings....after the jump
Here's the updated Composite Big Board with the last average rankings plus the change from the initial issue from march 7th:

- As I'm sure you would have guessed the top fallers (my oxymoron for the day) were DE DaQuan Bowers (-3.9) and DT Nick Fairley (-2.4). Bowers can only blame himself but Fairley has to wonder what changed about his game footage and production to warrant such a drop. I still don't see him getting past the Titans at #8.
- The two guys benefiting the most from Bowers and Fairley's slide is LB Von Miller (+2.8) and DT Marcell Dareus (+2.0). So essentially Miller has over taken Bowers as the top pass rusher in the draft. I find that interesting given their different positions and defensive alignments, 4-3 vs. 3-4.
- Another guy rising in the 2nd tier of prospects is DE Aldon Smith (+1.9). It looks like many see him as a 3-4 DE but he looks more like a 4-3 DE to me. The fact he's a tweener might actually be helping him.
- It looks the rise of DE Robert Quinn was a brief spike that has not been saddled with the reality of a lost season to draw game film from. The combine didn't really help Quinn as much as some predicted.
- WR Julio Jones (+1.3) got a well deserved bump from his combine performance. I think the only think AJ Green has on Jones is slightly better hands.
