Beason is the 9th best linebacker in the NFL?!
Forgive me if I don't know who Tamba Hali or Jerod Mayo is (I tend to wear blinders when following my teams), but I couldn't believe Beason was tied for 9th. He almost didn't make the list!

I call BS
I chalk this up to being in an underserved market and playing out ouf his natural position last season. Beason isn’t being seen on the national games as much as some of these others but I’d put him up against any of them. I can agree with Willis being the number 1 right now, but Beast is not that far behind in my book. You put him back in the middle and he is a field general. I just hope he sees this article and comes out this year to prove it wrong.
Furthermore...
Beason entered the league in 2007 was 3 amongst LBs for tackles, 2008 3rd, 2009 4th and 2010 13th (position change). With the only person finishing ahead of him each year being Patrick Willis. So how is he 9th? I hate the talking heads, James Harrison REALLY, Demarcus Ware? Only because they play for the Steelers and Cowgirls and your hear their names more often. And don’t even get me started on Urlacher or Lewis, the once was linebackers (don’t get me wrong Lewis is still relevant but not better than Beast)….this article is crap.
This is a faulted vote.
You can’t really include 3-4 OLBs as linebackers. They are pass rushers.
Beason is 6th if you exclude the pass rushers from this list.

I can't because they don't exist. And I can't count...there's only three 3-4 ILB and/or 4-3 LBs ahead of him.
According to ESPN, its:
1. Willis
2. Lewis
3. Mayo
4. Urlacher
The only one I would argue is Willis.
But this is just another national kidney-shot after a 2-14 season….more to come, undoubtedly.

No way Beason should be 9th
I’ll take Willis, Matthews, Mayo, Woodley, Hali and Beason in no particular order. As far as the tradition linebacker, Its between Willis, Mayo and Beason.
WE'RE DANCIN!!!
Also your mention of Hali gives me an excuse to post this
That is probably the best Penn State play in the last 10 years, so I will always be a fan of Tamba. But he was a defensive lineman in college, now he is a blitzing 3-4 linebacker and still runs a decent amount of plays from the 3 point stance. That is part of the reason the list is so weird, how do you compare Hali and Beason? One gets 100+ tackles, the other gets double digit sacks.
WE'RE DANCIN!!!
Right.
Gotta take out the pass rushers. Call ’em pass rushers and make your list of those.
Linebackers are a different Beast—see what I did there. (weee-oooo, weee-ooo) here comes the corny police! (Inside joke).

Booooo!
Although Hali and Mayo are definitely on the rise, I’d take Beason and Willis any time over either player; Lewis and Urlacher would still be in that top 5 though, just a little something like this:
1a. Beast
1b. Willis (don’t even have to change the uni number)!
3. Lewis (Ray may be getting slower, but I dare you to find a better field General than him)
4. Urlacher (when healthy)
5. Woodley (I initially didn’t think much of him not knowing a whole lot about him, but I could see him succeeding as a 4-3 guy just as much as he is now in Pitt’s scheme)

Mr Magoo is a moron...
Seriously, how the hell can Jon Clayton have Lawrence Timmons and Orakpo higher than Beason? That’s just stupid
Orakpo is another that is up and coming, but all referee conspiracies aside...
he had a much less impactful sophomore season than his rookie campaign would’ve led one to expect; Not sure how Timmons jumped Beason though…

I always thought he was Poindexter...

One cries because one is sad. For example: I cry because others are stupid, and it makes me sad.
BS list.
You can’t compare ILB’s to pass rushers, that’s asinine beyond belief.
Yes I'm a dude.
AMEN BROTHA!!!
of couse the sack guys are going to be near the top of the list. thats the flashy stats the everyone likes. Demarcus ware has yet to get over 85 tackles in a season and hes considered the best by some ppl.

Beast not happy with the list...
per twitter
They ask me if I think I’ve arrived? I always say, the day I do is the day I stop getting better. I don’t like to read into who has the hype. Who’s considered the best…. Bc I realize they’re just enough doubters I have to prove wrong. Espn has me ranked 9th in the league. Appreciate you espn… You make it easy to get up and do it again and again. You just added fuel to the fire.
Thanks espn, you just got somebody’s head knocked off next season…

I imagine every NFC South quarterback's reaction to that article was something like this...
