According to the National Football Post the Carolina Panthers are bringing Ryan Mallett to Charlotte tomorrow for a private workout. This represents a QB heavy week for the front office with Mallett in Charlotte tomorrow, Cam Newton set to work out on Wednesday, then the Panthers head to the Missouri pro day to see Blaine Gabbert on Thursday.
We're still seeing a commitment to scouting the QB position with a fervor unseen at other positions. While personally I think Ryan Mallett is a ticking time bomb, physically he has many of the characteristics the Carolina Panthers are looking for at the QB position, especially if they manage to trade back and get an early second rounder where Mallett is currently projecting to go. He's a tall, big armed pocket QB who has limited mobility- but, if given time in the pocket he's the best pure passer in this draft. The question with Mallett becomes "How will he deal with an NFL pass rush?" and "How true are some of the damning off field questions about him?". It's important to note that only Mike Shula and Marty Hurney saw Ryan Mallett in Arkansas, per Darin Gantt- so obviously they liked him enough to bring him to Charlotte to meet the rest of the staff.
Six weeks until the draft... it can't come soon enough.
