Clemson defensive end, and projected top 5 pick Da'Quan Bowers has decided not to run the 40 yard dash, or any other drills instead electing to only bench press in Indianapolis; this from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Edit: It has been pointed out that Bowers had surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his knee... this likely greatly impacted his decision and I can't blame him for choosing health over running. That being said, his high school coach was on the record as saying he was training all events for the combine as early as last week- so one wonders how much it really is effecting him
I don't really understand the decision by Bowers given that as it stands he's not a lock for a top four spot. It appears he will likely be fighting for that position with Nick Fairley, Patrick Peterson, AJ Green and Cam Newton. For a player who has been regarded by some as 'lazy', and only showing one dominant year in his college career I find it slightly worrisome that he's not willing to show his full suite of skills for scouts. Auburn prospects Nick Fairley and Cam Newton have gone on the record as saying they will 'fully participate' in all drills in Indianapolis.
What do you think Panther faithful? While it seemed like an outside chance we would take a DE, the chance was still there and it wasn't so long ago that Bowers said he wanted to convince Carolina that he's worth the #1 overall pick. Does Bowers' decision not to fully participate effect your opinion of him?
