NFL, NFLPA agree to mediation from The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
This is a story fresh off the pressers, so I'm trying to get this information to you as soon as I can before I head off to college. First of all, don't worry! This is voluntary from both sides. This isn't Washington coming in to take over the NFL and sell the company off to Canada or something. This is a 3rd party program offered by Washington in order to help both sides come to an agreement. It is an agency available to all companies to serve as the go-between for the unions that make up their workforce.
You can find more information about this program at the following link.
Hopefully this is a step in a positive direction, and a sign that negociations will resume very soon. Do not lose faith Panther fans! With a 3rd party helping to nudge them along, we may have our football yet!
*UPDATE*
The NFL and NFLPA have just agreed that after a full week of non-negotiation, they will enter a 7 day period of full on negotiations starting this today. Get your popcorn ready.

Aww...they're headed to marriage counseling. That's nice.
Hopefully Roger doesn’t let DeDe take the house, car, boat, and kids and ends up stuck with nowhere to live and a hefty child support payment and alimony agreement.
That's what she said.

Haha
That’s about the same way Rotoworld put it.
Really this is all to save face and present positive PR. It doesn’t mean anything until they actually sit down at the negotiating table again.

Well he could sleep at Cowboys stadium and have the biggest TV ever. Oh wait…now that your here, well we just don’t have a place for ya. Sorry
I don’t like “federal” intrusion into this. Not going to make a political statement here, but I don’t like the government having any say into how this business known as the NFL is run. The NFL doesn’t need this, but this damned players union does….
I don’t care for this at all. These people should be able to do this themselves.

Don't worry. This agency doesn't have power to do anything under the law. It's effectively a marraige counsel, BW had it just about right.
Read the 2nd link I provided and you’ll feel a lot less nervous about this. It’s pretty much just a 3rd party trying to talk things through with both sides and help them come to an agreement.
I’m off to class now! See you later guys!

Oh dear god...
This isn’t “federal intrusion” into anything. By using this service, the two parties do not grant the government some domineering power to unilaterally imposes its will on either the Owners or the NFLPA. What it does do is offer an unbiased, 3rd party to provide insight into the different proposals brought up by both sides. No more, no less.
No need for the attitude in the post Ace. I’m simply stating a personal concern, nothing more.
I’m happy for this issue to get resolved quickly, I just don’t like the fact these two groups can’t work this thing out themselves like professionals. I want it ended, but I had hoped they could do it amongst themselves and not involve a 3rd party.

That's not what you said though.
You said you didn’t like the government, specifically, having a role in the negotiations because you “don’t like the government having any say into how this business known as the NFL is run.” Of course, that’s not the government’s role in this situation, so if you want to further clarify why you don’t like the government acting as a mediator, I would love to hear it.
The government acts as a mediator all the time in everything from criminal justice to marriage divorce. What argument is there that the government is unfit for that role?
Look man, I’m not here to have a debate with you. Like I said, the attitude here isn’t necessary at all Ace. I would have like to have seen this taken care of internally. I don’t understand what your deal here is; it is my opinion that I would like to see the two sides handle this internally and not have any form of mediation.
Unfortunately to me it has come to that. You don’t have to like my opinion Ace, but you certainly don’t need to attitude while pointing it out here.

Well now I can rest easy.
Anytime a government program gets involved I can always count on a speedy resolution. /sarcasm

I'm actually pretty excited about this
They are actually taking steps ahead instead of back.
I’m usually a flask half-full kind of guy though.

Federal Mediation Service - Not a bad thing !
The Federal Mediatrion Service can be a big help. I had them set in on 3 contract negotiations that I was the chief negotiator. They offer a “neutral” viewpoint, and, more importantly a chance for either, or both sides to "cave in " a little and still save face.
They cannot, and will not, attempt to force any issue(s) , they simply look for a common ground that both parties can live with.
It sure won’t hurt.
Jim
If that is what they do then I am fine with that. I am just one of those types that hates the possible interference from things like this. Like I said above, that is just my opinion. I was hoping they could just work this out like men, but apparently that won’t be the case.
If they can get this done while satisfying both parties, then I will be very glad this happened. Perhaps I just didn’t understand how this worked, I don’t mind explanations.
I like it
Hopefully a third party will keep hot heads on both sides from boiling over. I also like the fact that there is now a media blackout.

Our ultimate goal is a new CBA. I will not discuss any details about the next set of negotiations. We are observing a strict media blackout

I know it means we won’t be able to play as much “He said (S)he said (The she being Jay Feely),” but it is a step in the right direction.

No offense to jamie or any of the other wonderful ladies on this board
In fact I really would like to take back what I said and instead say:
I know it means we won’t be able to play as much "He said He said" gleaned from thesecond hand information of douche-tards, (The douche-tard being Jay Feely)," but it is a step in the right direction.

Ok, I think I’m good.

You tried, and that's what counts.
(and apologies to anyone unfortunate enough to share the name “Jay Feely” with a certain kicker)
On a related note, any chance that Kasay retires after this season, and Feely signs with the Panthers?

Heard last night they're scheduled to meet daily for 7-days. If this doesn't get it done,
and with a mediator keeping things moving forward (hopefully), there’s a chance we’ll get a deal before the deadline. Here’s hoping!!
