Super Bowl eve could shape the NFL for 2011

According to Mark Maske of the Washington post in his blog article from last night the NFL and NFLPA will be meeting on Saturday night for the first of several scheduled talks to try and hammer out a new CBA. While the sides are still miles apart, at least a dialog has been opened for further negotiations. As it stands neither the league, nor the union is happy with each others demands, but they are looking to 'intensify negotiations' which at least shows a cognizance by both sides that the need to get a deal done sooner rather than later.

Let's face it, the NFL has never been more popular; and when games like the Pro Bowl are breaking records for TV ratings it's a clear sign that fans aren't ready to part with football for a week, let alone possibly a whole season. This renewed attempt to broker a deal represents the first time since before Thanksgiving that the sides met for intense negotiations.

Time will tell, but I think I speak for all fans when I say I hope they get this sorted out sooner, rather than later.
