I must admit, up until yesterday I was like every other Panther fan out there that thought we had 0 chance at making the playoffs this year, but after yesterday I actually no longer think it's out of the realm of possibility. Now is it likely? No. But I will say that after crunching some numbers, it actually doesn't seem as out of reach as initially thought. Below I will post the scenario that would have to happen for us to clinch a wild card spot. As unlikely as this is to occur, you have to admit it's no longer entirely impossible like we initially thought.
1st. We would have to win our next four games. No ifs, ands or buts. No margin of error, we HAVE to win our next four games against the Falcons, Texans, Bucs and Saints. Now this alone seems like an impossible task. But looking at the glass as half full we almost beat the Falcons in the Georgia dome, Andre Johnson is hurt and T.J Yates still hasn't shown he's a franchise QB, Bucs we will beat again and the Saints in New Orleans will be extremely hard but any given sunday, right? And let's not forget they did get beat by both the Bucs AND Rams.
2nd. The Giants can only win one more game, now on the surface this seems highly highly unlikely, or does it? Their schedule for the next four sundays looks like this; Cowboys, Redskins, Jets and Cowboys. Now remember, they can win one and still not knock us out of contention and with the way they are playing this year and still a tough scheduoe ahead it's very much in the realm of possibility they only win one more game this season.
3rd. Now this 3rd scenario is where things can get sticky. The Lions and Bears would have to lose the next 4 games in a row. Now the bright point here is they don't play each other again this season AND they both have to play the Packers. So let's just go ahead and say they only have to lose their next 3 games and assume the Pack will go undefeated this season. Now remember both Cutler and Forte are out for the season. The Lions losing their next 4 is the tough one. Let's just assume they implode and they go back to their 0-16 ways and lose out the rest of the season.
Now with this current scenario happening, that would mean both the Panthers and Falcons will be the two wild card teams in the NFC. Now let's do a recap of what needs to happen. We win our next 4, Giants only win 1 more and the Bears and Lions will have to lose out the rest of the season. Again I realize this is very very unlikely but if we have a decisive win against the Falcons then things get very intresting.
