PrintSammy Watkins is the new Jacoby Ford. Dwayne Allen is a NFL Caliber TE. "I'm a real boy" Tajh Boyd is going to crush the enemy with his cannon of an arm. Virginia Tech plays in Bank of America Stadium in order to get revenge for their one loss during the season. They have a good running game, I expect them to put up lots of points against my Tigers. As long as Dabo Swinney doesn't screw it up, we should win this game.
Go Tigers! Go Clemson! Woooot. Been waiting all week for this one.

Clemson just recovered a BIG turnover fumble.

They deserve every bit of what they've got right now.
They’ve just been playing like they’re overrated lately. I blame the early ACC Championship birth. Once they knew that they could get it no matter what, they shut down and stopped playing. They look much truer to form tonight, at least in the first half!

Trust me when I say I feel ya. Our defense isn't too stout either.
Chad Morris has taken our offense and he’s made it an elite unit, but the other side has been terrible. We’ve got great pass-rushers. Brandon is going to go in the first 20 picks. Andre Branch will follow in his steps when he declares. But for some odd reason, teams are able to run right over us.

That's why I wouldn't take Brandon Thompson unless it was the 2nd round.
As I’ve said before, if you’re an NFL type talent you stand out in college games. No way should teams be running on a team with a first round DT.

In fact I just watched him that entire drive before the half.
He has a good initial burst and he’s clearly very strong – he can knife into the backfield pretty easily it seems. VT are also aware that he’s the danger man because he was trap blocked at least once and double teamed constantly.
BUT he didn’t make any plays. If he’s there in the second, MAYBE. He’s not high on my list though. There’s lots of DTs I like more than him.

It's been that way all year.
A lot of the problem is the defensive scheme. If they get past the front 4, they often have a lot of room to run. Hasn’t been as bad as it was tonight since the linebackers improved, but like in the SC State game if they got through the D-Line they had a guaranteed 10 yard gain before the linebackers even thought of him.
You can see his impact in the plays that other players have made though. You’re right about him not making up plays. But he’s freed up Andre Branch among others all year with all the attention on him, so he’s a risky pick. You have to wonder how he’ll perform on NFL-Caliber linemen.

Also the ACC is weak. This Clemson team isn’t very good either in my opinion. It’s why I think Golden can turn Miami round quickly if he has a solid recruiting class or two.

I think he's doing pretty great. He's shedding single blocks like it's nobody's business.

If he doesn’t spike the ball he would have tacked on some yardage after the catch. The first penalty was on the defense.

Where has this team been the last 4 months?
Man, we look like the 8-0 team that started off this season.
As soon as we got the automatic ACC bid we shut down.
It’s like the ACC title was their goal all along and now that the game actually matters, we’re playing again.
Plus we got Sammy Watkins back. That is VERY important. Watkins and Hopkins are two excellent receivers and our NFL-Caliber TE is just extra credit. Losing even one of our Wideouts is a big hit on our 30+ PPG offense.

He did pretty well!
The thing about Brandon Thompson is that the entire ACC has double team or triple teamed him the entire year. The RB or a combo of a Center/Guard is nearly always assigned to block only him when the QB drops back for a pass and did so the entire first half. While he has been held in check, it’s freed up the guys around him to make plays.
Towards the end of the game though that part broke down and and Brandon Thompson received more single-man blocking. While he had been showing it the whole game during double coverage, it was when his bull-rushing capability truly shined. He dominated the 1 on 1 matchups, constantly pushing his guy into the backfield and participating in a couple of sacks.
I was moderately pleased with what I saw that game. It’s completely unlike the feeling I got with Jacoby Ford where I knew he was going to be a success immediately. We need to wait and see what he does during the combine. I’m not quite convinced he’s a first rounder yet, but I would happily take him without hesitation if he’s in the middle of the second round. He would be a hellava lot better than the guys we have now, I’m sure of that!
I’m not sold on him as a first rounder, but we’ll see.

It was unfortunately nostalgic
to see BoA with such a high energy crowd last night. I remember when Panthers games could be like that. I hope we get a primetime game next year, I haven’t seen one under the lights in a while.
