ProFootballTalk.com's "Rumor Mill" reported tonight that the hottest CFL free agent since Dolphins pass rushing OLB Cameron Wake a couple of years back is drawing a lot of NFL interest. He workedout for the Vikings and Dolphins this week, and will workout for the Browns, Steelers, and Jets this week, though he can't be signed before January 2nd.
He is Jovan Olafioye, a 350 pound OT from the Gray Cup champion BC Lions, who allowed 0 sacks (at both LT and RT) and a finalist for the O-Lineman of the year award. He went to college at NC Central, so so he might like to return to Carolina. However, his being able to sign starting January 2nd might be a problem for the Panthers, because the Panthers don't have much cap room until the new league year starts in March, so they might have to be creative in delaying some payments until after the new league year starts.
Signing Olafioye could be the answer for the Panthers problems at RT next year, and would certainly be no worse than any OT they could draft after the 2nd round. His signing could free the Panthers from a need to draft an OT in 2012, so their 1st and 2nd round picks can be used for defense.
