You Make the Call: Predicting this week's game vs. the Texans!
Well, it was disappointing getting last week's game right, edging me up to 8-5 on the year. Add to that disappointment Jake Delhomme will be holding a clipboard this week, so I'm pretty mad at one former Tarheel TJ Yates.
I'll just come right out and say it. I'm picking the Panthers this week. Call it my dumb pick of the year, at least that's what I'm calling it. The Texans are better than us, obviously. You don't get to 10 wins in mid December if you don't have some talent. They have quality wins over the Steelers, Falcons and Bengals.
But looking at their schedule, 6 of their 10 wins have been over bad (4 wins or less) teams. They have been winning without Matt Schaub, yes, but by a margin of 7, 7 and 1 points the past 3 weeks.
While the Texans do have something to play for (home field advantage in the playoffs), I see this as a trap game for them. They have won 7 games in a row and are due for a letdown. Andre Johnson is out again for this game. We are doing better stopping the run, and will be able to concentrate on the backs more since Schaub is out.
And the main reason I am picking the Panthers?? I just can't pick us to lose to.......................................
TJ Yates.
I watched him play alot in college, and I really don't think he is sliced bread. I think he's due for a game in which he is reminded he is a rookie playing in his fourth career NFL game. Courtesy of Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, Chris Gamble and company.
So yes, I personally think I'm nuts making this call. But it is the NFL, and who knows, the Any Given Sunday thing just might happen before our very eyes in that good ol stadium in which we played our first Super Bowl.
In a squeaker upset "special" of the year............
Panthers 21 Texans 20
That’s how I see it. What about you Panthers fans? How do you see this Sunday’s game? You make the call,
Let’s hear it!

How I See Game
I think we will have a rough day. I think their def. will stop a lot of big plays and getting a lot of pressure on Cam. I see our def. giving up big plays. Same as last week. We did decent job with the run but could’t stop the pass. I see same scenario this week. We’ll do a decent job stopping one but not both. I hope we get to see Hogan on field and not just ST. I’d like to see whats he’s got.
Final Score Houston 27 car. 17
The two games I have actually predicted for us did not go so well.
With that said I seen on NFL.com in the picks that the author was picking us to win in an upset. I will not divulge what I think will happen but I thought I would share that piece of info I saw over there.
When someone tells you that you are one in a million, what they are really saying is that there are about 1400 of you in China.
38-38 OT
Yes, I’m going with the tie. The Panthers start strong and go into the half up by 14 only to blow it in the third quarter. Cam rallies them back to tie but no one will bend in overtime. Afterwards, Cam and company don’t lose another game until the middle of next season.

You think our D will last an entire OT period? good joke
I can just see it now….we lose in OT faster than the Packers did against the Cardinals in the playoffs

Out of everything I predicted
That’s the only thing you are going to point out and rebuke? If anything, you should have said the Panthers wouldn’t have a long winning streak from this season to the middle of the next. Oh, and maybe have a little faith in your team. I believe in turnaround games and they need to start somewhere. So, call me foolish if I believe.

Yeah everything else you predicted is more probable than that
We’ve been going head to head against every opponent except the Titans. So I can see us going to OT with that score. But we will have to get the ball first and score or we’re going to get scored on immediately. Our D already can’t last 4 quarters, they will all need IVs by the 3rd minute into OT. I can see us winning out after the Texans game (with brees resting), we get back injured players, and draft defensively to go undefeated into the middle of the season. Basically I believe our present defense has no hope but the future is bright.

Ummmm....just one question...
Would that be the same Titans team that we drug 41-7…at their house?!

I admire your optimism...
I really, really do! Also, I agree with you that on “Any Given Sunday”, any team can be beat. Now I do not mean to sound arrogant or cocky, but here’s the thing: Houston has had their trap game already this season. On October 9th, the Texans locked horn’s with a Los Angeles Raiders team who’s owner had passed away the day before. The Texans came into that game not fully understanding or appreciating the depth of emotion that such a thing would have on LA’s team and failed to match their intensity. Suffice it to say, Houston was summarily drummed off the field…their field and humbled by a Raider’s team that outplayed them in every facet of the game. Now, you may wonder what this has to do with the Carolina Panthers, right? Well, the reason I bring this up is I agree with the author’s premise that this is a trap game…but not for the Texans! I don’t think anyone outside of Houston fully appreciates how hungry this city has been for winning football. When the Texans unfurl their AFC South Championship banner before the game, something that many have waited so long to see…the amount of energy that’s going to be generated in that stadium will be absolutely palpable! If the Panthers don’t match that energy from the opening whistle, then…..things could get ugly!

drummed off
We lost on a last second interception in the endzone from their 5.
How is that being drummed off the field? We didn’t match their intensity but at the end we had a shot to win it.

True...
I may have overstated things a bit. But the point I was trying to make is valid. We were behind the eight ball the whole game because we didn’t understand what the game meant to them…and match their intensity. If Carolina comes into Reliant thinking this game will be like their other 13 games…I think they’ll be in for a long afternoon.

The game goes as Cam goes
The defense is playing good enough that if Cam plays the way he did in the first half of last weeks game I believe we can hold up against any team in the league. So I will predict if Cam has 0 turnovers that we out score them in a close one.
Panthers 21, Texas 20

I'm feeling a win coming for us, but I don't know if it will come this week
If we execute our typical “get a multi-score lead to force the other team to abandon the run” to a perfect t, than I think we can force TJ Yates and the Texans into a shoot out, somewhere we have the slight advantage. Panthers 31 Texans 27 (And, Yes, Olindo will make a field goal.)

might not be olindo anymore. jury's still out.
So much to be done, and so few people willing to do it for me.
I love the Panthers in the upset this week
I agree this is absolutely a trap game for Houston. Rookie QB and Johnson out…. I want to see us crowd the box on early downs and force obvious passing downs where McDermott can really go after Yates with the Blitz and have our D create some turnovers. Hopefully we can get an early lead like last week and then pound them with the run game and set up some surprise play action to seal the game early in the 4th quarter. Thats my story and I’m sticking to it……………..for now at least ;-)
The game is close, but Armanti Edwards relieves Cam Newton in the 4th Quarter and leads us to a victory.

ACC Championship Member Brandon Thompson is the new Jacoby Ford. You better pick him Panthers or you will be doomed to relive the 2010 season over and over again in the Twilight Zone.

It is more likely this Lionel Ritchie, I mean Carlos Santana, will come out in the fourth quarter and lead us to victory the AE

We blow 'em out 34-24
I say blow out, bc I think we get up big early, and Houston makes it look like a respectable game late.
and by the way, whoever put me on to...
Thank you Thank You Thank You
I’ve been able to watch every Panthers game, any college basketball game that I’ve bet on, and also the Cotto-Margarito fight, all for free. Great site, great rec.
The way I see it, if we score more points than the Texans, we'll probably win this thing.

Panthers drive down the field and set up for a 32 yard game winning field goal with :02 seconds left. Rivera sends out Kunalic, who then shanks it wide right. Upon further investigation, it is Mare in Kunalic’s uniform, with Mare knocking out Kunalic with chloroform in order to keep his job.

Congratulations to the Carolina Panthers...
and all of their fans! Boy, I sure read this one wrong! Your team looked absolutely incredible out there Sunday!! Honestly, I cannot understand how they’ve won only 5 games. Good Luck through the rest of the season and beyond…and Cam Newton definitely has my vote for ROTY!! Good job!! :)

tks cattle driver
heres hoping #17 replaces the kid and takes you all the way : )

Thanks...
We’re 5-9 because our decimated defense has struggled to hold leads in the 4th quarter.
If we had Jon Beason and Thomas Davis healthy, we’d probably be 9-5 or 10-4 right now.
