Cam Newton to break Total Offense Record

I was looking at some of Cam's stats and I realized something that i havent heard any Network or any writer bring up. Currenty, through 13 games Cam has racked up 3573 yards passing and 554 yards rushing. A whopping total of 4,127 yards.

If we expand that through game 16 at the current rate, Cam Newton would aquire 5,079 yards of total offense. The most Total Offense ever recorded in a season was 4,976 yards in 2008 by Drew Brees. Cam potentially could break the record in his rookie year, which is very impressive.

The only downside is Drew Brees is on pace to break his own record. But neverless, this would make Cam the only rookie to ever break 5,000 yards of Total Offense in a single season.

I'm not sure how you're doing the math

The record includes subtracting yards lost on sacks. That’s why Dan Marino and Drew Brees both have seasons of over 5,000 passing yards, but the record is less than 5,000. If you include CAM’s yards lost due to sacks, I’m not sure what the total is at that point. However, I’m sure the rookie record has already been destroyed, and if he doesn’t break this record this year, he will in the future.

yeah i agree with gaines

Idk how you included net yardage for brees but not for newton. He’s lost a LOT of yards due to sacks.

Oddly enough..

A week later your number for ‘total offense’ is actually correct, 4127. 3722 passing, -231 sack yards, 609 rushing yards, 27 recieving.

Frankly, I’m pretty sure it’s nothing close to an official stat. I’m sure you could also take away penalty yards he’s responsible for (such as delay of games, if they count against the QB, and of course his celebration penalty after his first rushing touchdown)

Also I wonder if you checked Daunte’s Culpepper’s 2004? I know he threw for 4700 yards and ran a lot.
