Steve Smith and Jordan Gross
Hi guys!
A big Ute fan here, just doing a story about some of our former players for my blog. I have been going around and asking people what they think of some of our alumni who play on their teams.
Steve Smith, Jordan Gross, and RJ Stanford are the former Utes who are on your roster.
And I just want to get your thoughts on them.....
How big of a figure is Steve Smith in Panther history? Has Jordan Gross lived up to expectations? Have these guys fit in on the team and in the community through the years?
I know RJ is a marginal player, so no real questions about him....
Thanks for your help!

He is the greatest player in franchise history, hands down. We love Smitty!
Has Jordan Gross lived up to expectationsMostly, he gets beat now and then but is by far an above average tackle. He has had moments where he looks like the best in the league but others where he’ll whiff on a DE and let him right through. Overall, very good player and glad we have him.
Have these guys fit in on the team and in the community through the years?Absolutely, they are the leaders of our young team and we love them in Charlotte!
Honestly couldn’t give you much of an opinion on RJ
Re: fitting in with the community
Jordan Gross does a “Kicking CF with Jordan Gross” kickball tournament every off season to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis, which is always a big hit with the community.

Both have been exceptional leaders...
In their own, completely different (loud/explosive, quiet General) ways. Both have been everything we want out of a Carolina Panther.

Steve and Gross are awesome, but
RJ is the glue that holds this defense together

No wonder we suck so bad on defense. Lol.

Admittedly, RJ has surprised me with his staying power on the roster (although he seems to be playing decently)...
Smitty…well, he’s the baddest mofo to don an NFL jersey
Gross…he’s been a franchise LT for going on 9 seasons now (well, rookie year he played RT), which is not exactly common for most teams in the league

Both huge parts of the team
Smitty is well, he’s one of a kind. The biggest little guy in the game and absolutely has NOT lost a step. Though he has been immature in his younger years he has evolved into the loud, brash leader you see today. He’s the spark plug that provides the fire in the offense with more 20+ yard plays than any other by a long shot.
Gross is a very solid player and considered by a lot of ‘experts" to be one of the top 5 LT’s in the league and has been to a couple pro bowls. He’s also one of the leaders in the locker room, organizing and paying for players to come to Charlotte to work out during the lockout.
