Former Panther Delhomme to Join Texans
Some of you may already be aware that former Panther QB Jake Delhomme will sign with the Houston Texans after a workout tomorrow (La Canfora nfl.com). The good ole' Ragin' Cajun that we Panther fans have come to love and hate, is a day away from putting on his second non-Panther uniform since he was cut by Carolina in the off-season of 2009. It's still hard to believe.
Rick Smith, Delhomme's agent, said in a phone interview Tuesday that his client has been staying in shape and raising racehorses in Louisiana since he was cut by Cleveland in July.
"He relishes that role, and he's looking forward to contributing to the team," Smith said in a phone interview. "He keeps himself in shape, he's been throwing a bunch."
I've been a Panther fan since 2003, when i was six years old. The first game I ever watched was Delhomme's unbelievable comeback against Jacksonville, capped off by his winning TD throw to Ricky Proehl, ever since, I've been a die hard fan, so my era as a Panther has been dominated by the ups and downs of Jake Delhomme. So to me, he's more than just a washed up gunslinger, who used to be a decent QB; more like a symbol of what the Panthers franchise is about. For that reason, I wish Jake nothing but the best, despite his back to back blown games (one of them being a playoff game). I don't know how y'all feel about this, or if you even care, but I'm interested to find out. LONG LIVE DELHOMME.

Thanks
If Tahj can learn how to have SOME pocket presence. Good luck to UNC (basketball). They’re young. UNLV will be their only loss this season imo.

Thank you
If we can get by Wisconsin and Kentucky I’ll believe that (That UNLV loss was hard but the Panthers win helped it a little lol)

Thats fuckin sweet
I hope they play inspired by that loss… Haven’t watched Wisconsin play but they’re ranked 7 (we’re now ranked 5 _ we deserve it though)

That was the only thing that got me through the weekend.

They needed that loss.
They’ve been playing terrible perimeter D all season.

Phillip Rivers!!!
I dont have a UNC/NCSU/Duke/USC/Clemson preference but Phillip Rivers is the only famous athlete I have ever met (I know a bunch of Hockey players, but that doesnt count)
BTW
He would be the first UNC QB to ever start a NFL game. In fact, the only other QB to ever throw a pass as UNC as his alba maner is Scott Stankavage. Career stats-8/25 66yds. 2 INT, and a QB rating of 7.9. (courtesy of statesfansnation.com)

haha smh
We’ve never realy had a good QB. Are defense is always good and we usual have good WR’s and RB’s but we can never get a good QB
by rscott94 on Nov 29, 2011 6:39 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
We'll have to see what he's like next year
No Dwight Jones to throw to and that’s realy his go to guy. But he will have Gio Bernard and that’s always a plus. I hope he does do work though
by rscott94 on Nov 29, 2011 7:00 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Renner needs to work on his arm strength for next year...
but if he bulks that up a bit he could definitely become the best UNC QB, not too mention a legit NFL talent; his decision making and awareness have both been pretty damn good for a first year starter (and a young one at that), and his accuracy is definitely something to be proud of. I just get scared when he goes down-field because some of his deep balls seem to hang a bit too long (although he has had a few that were things of beauty). Man, UNC has come a long way from my childhood days of watching Chris Keldorf leading them onto the field….

Agreed
I’m just worried he has great games and then he has terrible games. But I have to say I just got into UNC football when Yates was in his junior year so I’m glad I havent seen those past days lol
You missed the glory days of such prospects like Oscar Davenport...
and Ronald Curry being a better WR than a QB was fun to watch lol

My main beef with Renner
is that he is really accurate, but just makes some WTF throws. Besides that, good days ahead. 8 Tarheels named All-ACC.

Yeah
He’s had great opportuinities to win and he has made some of those WTF throws and it fucked up our chances of winning. But cant wait for next season Kareem Martin came from my high school and now someone in my Class (Class of 2012) is going to play there Jerrome (JJ) Patterson and I get to see Gio Bernard run the rock again (thats always a plus)
Gio is so nasty.
I hope Withers gets a legit shot to become the permanent HC.

I can't relate, I'm a Virginia Tech Fan
I love Beamer Ball. And we have Virginia Tech Alums all over the NFL. Michael Vick, Thomas Davis, Tyrod Taylor just to name a few. I know Taylor isn’t a starter and probably never will be but that dude was awesome in college.

That has run through my head multiple times. It would be great to have Jake back on the team. Idk if you were serious or not, but I think it would be great seeing Jake on the sidelines back in Charlotte. Him running down the sidelines to chestbump Cam lol.

I’d take Jake over Anderson as our 2nd string QB.

i love jake
i don’t understand the hate for him that some people have. So what he had a bad end to his tenure here, the guy was the epitome of class. He was a great leader, he was passionate, and he always took the blame, even when it wasn’t his fault. I hope he plays great for the Texans

There will never be another Jake Delhomme, and I mean that in every way possible.

Jake is the man
I still have my old 17 jersey and even though he had a rough go of it at the end I look back on Delhomme with fond Super Bowl, double OT playoff and Cardiac Cat memories. Hope he takes the Texans all the way.

I still have my Delhomme jersey too lol
However, I don’t wear it in public.

You should peel the 7 off it & you have a new Newton jersey.
Oh, and white out the name then use a sharpie & write Newton on it.
Jusdt kidding, I always liked Delhomme, didn’t like how we just let him go after paying him anyway. That said, I was glad he wasn’t our starter when they let him go.

I will always have a soft spot for Delhomme but I hope he plays against the Panthers
and throws 5 interceptions to Gamble. Gamble needs to go to the Pro Bowl this year!
by ambull01 on Nov 29, 2011 8:52 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
I think Gamble has Pro Bowl spot
A lot of ignorant fans will vote for Asomugha and Terrance Newman on nfl.com, but that counts for just 1/3 of the vote. Hopefully, Woodson and Gamble will get the start, they’ve earned it.
by RonnieHawkins97 on Nov 29, 2011 9:03 PM EST up reply actions
I don't see gamble
making the pro bowl, even though he deserves to go. Brent G, Patrick P, Charles T, etc will probably make it over him.
by adam carter on Nov 29, 2011 9:09 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Peterson will go as a PR. He hasn't been anything special in coverage
In no particular order…
Charles Woodson (GB)
Chris Gamble (queencitykatsboiii)
Brent Grimes (ATL)
Charles Tillman (CHI)
by RonnieHawkins97 on Nov 29, 2011 9:19 PM EST up reply actions
PP will still get some snaps in the pro bowl
as a cb. Just like DJ playing both receiver and return man in the pro bowl last year. I wish I could hear from players around the league about gamble play this year.
by adam carter on Nov 29, 2011 10:28 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
If the packers make the super bowl, then Charles
W won’t be able to go. Carlos R is having a great year, forgot to add him over Charles Tillman.
by adam carter on Nov 29, 2011 10:30 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Anywho
Gamble has been recognized. I don’t think it’s possible for him to NOT make it. Maybe I’m overly confident, but I don’t think anyone has been playing better at CB than Gamble ,except for Woodson.

I'm glad Yates is getting a legit shot at the spot at least (well, it seems that way at any rate)...
He did seem to improve with each passing year at UNC, and probably would’ve had a much better (although it was still good) season last year if Greg Little had been playing (hell, that team had a legitimate shot at being top15 if all the players had been playing).

After this stint with the Texans.
We really need to sign Delhomme to one of those one-day contracts because he HAS to retire a Panther.

Thanks for the shoutout to my old article Ronnie!

I still do.

Jake
he was decent for about 4 years. he had a coach who was very devoted to him. i think in reality, it probably set this team back several years. damn hard headed coach. just wanted a game manager. i remember at the end of jakes tenure, when he had to pass the ball, it was gut wrenching. anyway, jake was a good guy and good luck to him. if houston has to put him on the field, they are in trouble.
How did it set the team back?
He was a decent qb. The coach is gone, the qb is gone, weould we be that much farther ahead now if they had played Moore sooner? We all saw what happened when Delhomme was injured that 1 year, when they brought in Testeverde and about 100 other qbs to replace him. The coach can only play the players on his team you know.
STICK THE KNIFE IN AND TURN IT!!!!!
they had plenty of chances to draft a qb high during foxs time and then we wouldn"t have went through hell in 2007. do you think he was decent after 2005. aaron rodgers was drafted #24 in 2005. fox wanted a game manager. delhomme was terrible after 2005. at least they could have made him compete for the job instead of just handing him the job. you remember 2009. after every loss, jake would throw mutiple picks and fox would say " jake gives us the best chance to win’. Really
You have to make up my mind.
Is it the coach that hires/drafts players or is it the GM? Every week I read how Hurney does good with picks. Then when a player is slowing down, the coach gets the blame for not having drafted his replacement. & Delhomme did ok in 2008 having a 12-4 record.
STICK THE KNIFE IN AND TURN IT!!!!!
No problem Tater.

Delhomme was never a game manager.
Game managers don’t throw into triple coverage and stay on the field.
It’s true, he was in a run first offense, but he took way too many shots down the field to be considered a game manager.
That said, I hope he throws for 4 TDs to Panther players in the Houston game.
