Around the nation a couple of national pundits have whined about how Cam Newton is a turnover machine, and how he recklessly he handles the ball. It has been discussed on CSR, and noted that Cam has INT numbers that compare quite favorably to some of the other elite QB's of the NFL. Also, a lot of Cam's turnovers have come in bunches, as Cam has 10 of his 16 turnovers in 3 games this year (GB,CHI, and DET).
Cam has been amazing as a rookie, and is on pace to break Peyton Manning's rookie passing record, as well as Steve Grogan's QB rushing TD record. However, the Panthers are 3-8 this year. All of the Panthers losses this year have been the fault of the anemic Special Teams and Defense, but Cam's stats have shown an interesting correlation with our wins and losses. In every loss this year, Cam has at least one turnover. Meanwhile, in each of our wins, Cam has had 0 turnovers. In no way am I blaming Cam for any of the losses we have had this year, but this parallel is a bit disconcerting and undeniable. Coaches Chudzinski and Shula have done a superb job in preparing Cam for each week, and calling the offense in order to suit Cam's abilities, and I hope they continue to work on progressing Cam as a QB. There are times when Cam tends to force passes, and make questionable decisions while under pressure, as well as throwing the rock up for grabs instead of taking a sack or throwing the ball away. In the words of Kenny Rogers, You got to know when to hold em', and know when to fold em'. Go Panthers.
