Week 11 Panthers Game Ball of the Week Fan Poll
Though it is tempting to forgo the Game Ball of the Week award after a tough loss like what we saw against the Lions I think there were some worthy performances. Back away from the ledge Panther fans this is a process and we are just getting started. I say enjoy the ride!
Our Game Ball of the Week nominees are:
KR Kealoha Pilares - Pilares returned a kick off for a TD for the first Panther return TD since 2003
RB Jonathan Stewart - Stewart was targeted 6 times and caught all 6 balls for a total of 87 yards
RB DeAngelo Williams - Williams collected 73 yards on just 10 carries for a 7.3 ypc average; he added 32 yards on a single reception as well
LB Jordan Senn - Senn filled in a LB and forced a fumble and added 6 tackles
LB James Anderson - Anderson had 10 tackles, 2 passes defensed and an INT
S Charles Godfrey - Godfrey logged 8 tackles, 2 passes defensed and an INT as well
DE Thomas Keiser - Keiser came off the practice squad bench two weeks ago and logged 5 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss and 2 QB hurries.
Like I said we have some very deserving performances but I'm not going to single any out at the moment so as to not skew the poll but it think you have a tough job ahead. So there are your choices for Panthers Game Ball of the Week. The poll is after the jump...

Ball has to go to Goodson, I mean Pilares, for his awesome kickoff return.
How can we not give it to the kid who did something that hasn’t been done for the Panthers since 2003?

I think you've got to give it to Pilares for the reason BW gave.
But Keiser deserves a legit honorable mention. Rivera promoted him and he came to play.

I agree with Keiser being 2nd on the deserving list.
If not for the KO return, that’s who I would have voted for.

me too....
Only for Pilares because it resulted as points on the board adn like BW said, hasnt been done since HE HATE ME did it. But Keiser was a close second on my list
Dear Baby Jesus in your golden diaper..thank you for making the number 89. Amen.
I voted for Williams.
I can’t give the ball to 1 play when players played an entire game. I was extremely happy with Pilares return, but there are a couple of others I would give it to before him.
STICK THE KNIFE IN AND TURN IT!!!!!
Feel the same way
I gave the ball to Anderson

Anderson was my second choice.
I guess I picked Williams because I like him more.

I voted Deangelo,
He had 7 yard per carry, which is pretty fantastic, and would’ve had a TD if not for that horse collar. The reason I didn’t vote for Pilares is even though he had the first TD since 2003 that actually was upheld, he didn’t effect the game much after that, But he does deserve the play of the week.
I think the game ball should really go to Tom Sorensen, who in his latest column, informs us that not only does Cam Newton wear a towel over his head on the sideline, but people are also upset about it.
I'm thankful we have such in-depth coverage of the team from the media guys who have access to the players.
It really makes me wonder why we even have CSR at all since they cover it so well.

Towel over the head.....
That's quality reporting right there I tell ya
STICK THE KNIFE IN AND TURN IT!!!!!
I think I have figured out why Newton wears the towel.
Remember Whoopie Goldberg? When she was a stand up comedienne, used to use a towel and pretend it was long flowing hair. I have cracked this case!
STICK THE KNIFE IN AND TURN IT!!!!!
Dick Stockton and everyone else needs to shut their damn mouth about the towel
Him about about 10% of the players around the league do it. I do it during rep breaks on workouts. It helps me focus and blocks out some of the lights, as well as cooling me down.
Muscle Milk!!!
HGH!! Power Bars!!!

Its the second most famous towel next to the turrible towels.
Next game I go to I’m going to wear a gatorade towel tucked into my shirt in support. I’d like to see them handed out at the gate and the whole audience wear them. Then afterwards they can be used to mop up what’s left of our defense.

reply fail!
What I was gonna say, which is no longer funny to me, is…so are you saying Cam is taking performance enhancing drugs. I feel that is what you were insinuating with your workout comment……ok so it is not funny. My apologies.
Dear Baby Jesus in your golden diaper..thank you for making the number 89. Amen.
I totally "liked" that column.
Newton for '11 ROY!
Walker for '11 ROY! I mean, assuming the lockout will end anytime soon...
Biyombo fo...ah who am I kidding? GO PANTHERS!
In fairness to Sorensen, the point that article seemed to make was that people are making a fuss over nothing with the towel and we probably shouldn’t be concerned. He wasn’t getting at Cam at all. Seems to take the same line as most of CSR.
One could question the article being written, but to me it looked like a rebuke to his colleagues in the media.

I voted for Keiser
For a PS player to come off the bench and have that kind of impact is astounding. While Pilares KR for a TD was great, he also had two or three KRs inside the 15.
I am okay with his 15 yard returns.
At least he is trying. We don’t start much farther out on average anyway with all the penalties.

For my amusement, I was sitting at work wondering if there was a way Hurney could trade D. Anderson to the Bears for our 3rd round pick we gave them for Olsen.
Dare to dream.

Yeah, I would prefer that, but realistically I would send Anderson to them if they were looking. I hear they are looking at couch potatoes like Warner, Bulger, and even Todd Collins.
It won’t happen, but I am playing fantasy GM right now.

If I were Hurney....
I would trade Clausen for a Kurt Rambis rookie card and a sandwich shop card that has four out of ten punches towards a free sandwich.
Or just the sandwich card.
I like this trade better.

Got To be Keiser
About the only guy who showed up on defense. to come off ps, kid did great. panthers kicking themselves for not bringing him up earlier. didnt he play de and olb.
Clausen
If they can trade him, which iam sure they want to do, no more than a 6th. round pick. we might get lucky and get a 5th. rounder.
OT

pilares
first guy to do it in 8 years for this franchise, he wins

Pilares was exciting to watch, but
that was one big play.
Keiser was all over the field every time he was in the game. He even played a bit of stand-up Outside Linebacker.
As a side note, with Senn (a converted safety) and Keiser ( a part time end/part time linebacker) we could have two thirds of our linebackers playing out of position. Of course, when you have two first round draft picks and a top back up on injured reserve …

and to think at the beginning of the year, everyone was trying to trade Connor
because he was expendable.
by panthersnbraves on Nov 22, 2011 2:52 PM EST up reply actions
Don't think that was the case.
I know I was for trading Connor not for being expendable but for being more valuable to another team. From my perspective it was better to trade him this off-season and get value in return rather than letting him walk away at the end of the season this year. Also, with the chance to review the season so far, Connor hasn’t been the same player he was before last years injury.
The Panthers have gotten play from reserves that is on a par to what Connor brought this year.
"I may be old but...eh, I forget the rest!"
+1 GC
Connor has been mediocre at best this year. Of course that could be due to poor DT play…

Gotta be Pilares
But Keiser is deserving as well.

Very tempted to go with Pilares...
After all, that record will probably last longer than me. I ended up voting for Keiser, as he was a desperately needed spark in our woeful defense.
Newton for '11 ROY!
Walker for '11 ROY! I mean, assuming the lockout will end anytime soon...

Anderson
I’ve almost voted for Anderson for weeks now, so this time around I felt I just had too do it since he had a great game yet again. He’s been playing with a hurt ankle to boot. Kieser for sure needs mention though. The dude played ferociously.
Odd that so many individual performances can still end up with a loss.
I liked the BAMF comment about twisting the knife. I think that they let the pressure off just before the half.

All of those players are deserving of the game ball
Unfortunately we don’t know how to put together a game with all that talent. What a shame.
Look closely
We are missing talent in the middle of the defense. It’s not hard to figure out the reason we can’t put together a full game, it’s just hard to find good players to fix the problem.
We brought in Ron Edwards to help stuff the run, but he’s injured. We lost Beason.
That’s really the difference in 2-8 and contention for a wild card spot right now.
