Thursday Night Football Open Thread

It's the most talked about player of the entire NFL, whose coach played the past decade with our Carolina Panthers, against GC Coverboy Mark Sanchez and the most talked about coach of the entire NFL. I was hoping CSR would put up an open thread (not sure why they didn't!!!?), but here we go!

First drive... what a great offense Denver just ran. Wonder if it will keep up. Denver defense puts the stop, and Jets screw up the punt. That's all I've seen so far.

So, sound off, and let's hear who everyone's going for!

These announcers are annoying

They don’t tell us viewers of things going on until ten seconds later… first it’s the 4th and inches, which we don’t know about until they’re lined up to play it, and now it’s the incomplete pass which would have gotten Denver close to the marker.

Agree 100%

On the bright side, this puts an even larger premium on offense and QBs. We’re well set on both at the moment with young talent, so we’re sitting in the cat bird seat.

was take Eric Decker out of my starting lineup. It’s a miracle I even got any points with him last Sunday, as one of the two pass completions just happened to go to him for a long touchdown score. I won’t be rolling those dice again.

If Palmer warranted two 1st rounders, Manning would be worth 2 first rounders and 2 starting players

But I have to say I havent read that rumble anywhere.

They’d be stupid to trade him anyway. Give the kid a couple of years to mature and learn how to run an offense from the best.

Maybe

Not sure Manning would give up that much control of the offense. Hard to imagine him going to another team and just taking over.

Will be interesting if they do indeed end up with the first pick what happens with Peyton. Who knows? He may decide his neck is too much of a risk, and decide to hang them up.

I think Cam would be a beast in this kind offense because hes actually a great passer and accurate and could actually make big completions on 3rd down unlike Tebow.

by PantherTrain on Nov 17, 2011 10:51 PM EST reply actions

Im just saying that Cam would be killer in this offense because when its time to pass the ball he would actually complete the pass unlike Tebow. God Tebow is just such a horrible passer. Any sports “expert” who predicted Tebow would be a better QB than Cam should be fired. I mean Cam actualky had good passing mechanics and pocket presence.

by PantherTrain on Nov 17, 2011 10:54 PM EST up reply actions

Newton and this offense would never be together, though

Newton changes the offense… the offense is about HIM. it would be more passing, which would take away from the denver offense. and i’d like to get away from any sort of constant option offense with Newton

I'm sick of Tebow screaming

“LET’S GO!! LET’S GO!!” after every time he scores a rushing TD

by rscott94 on Nov 17, 2011 11:31 PM EST via mobile reply actions

glad Rosario is not on our ST anymore

Wow Tebow lol I must admit he’s a terrible QB but he is one clutch mother fuker. WTF just happened?!?

by PantherTrain on Nov 17, 2011 11:35 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I know. Right?

He is the worst QB in the league but that bastard just wins games.

After that rant about not using a timeout

I wanted to jump on a plane and go stab him in the throat for being so useless to society. That was so completly idiotic especialy after watching the Jets lose contain when it was so easy to know what was gonna happen.

I know

“Tebow is winning on a less talented team and Cam just can’t do it” Skipp

Well maybe if Tebow played the teams we did he would lose

by rscott94 on Nov 17, 2011 11:42 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I'm dreading hearing more praise heaped upon him

I have nothing against the guy, but this excessive media hype over a guy that really just isn’t that good at his position drives me crazy.

And Cam and this offense can’t put 3 points up on the board all game and still be able to win it on the final dive.

by JDeLong42 on Nov 17, 2011 11:47 PM EST up reply actions

Agree

I have nothing against him either its amazing how he wins the dude is a 4th quarter monster when you don’t have the correct defensive scheme

by rscott94 on Nov 17, 2011 11:53 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

That blitz was awful

He can barely hit open receivers. I don’t get why they rush 8 up the middle giving him the entire outside of the field to run for the TD. He didn’t even have to think about throwing the football.

by JDeLong42 on Nov 18, 2011 12:10 AM EST up reply actions

Detroit was the only smart team

Or maybe it was the offensive scheme. Who knows?

by rscott94 on Nov 18, 2011 12:27 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Wait did Skip really say that? Hmm Denver has a god damn defense!! I’ll say it a million times, give Cam a defense as good as the Bengals or the Broncos and Cam “would win games all by himself also.”

This isn’t golf or boxing! QBs don’t win games, QBs with good defenses win games! Giving blame or credit to the QB only for wins and losses is equal to blaming presidents for high gas prices.

by PantherTrain on Nov 17, 2011 11:47 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Those werent his exact words but...

He did say that and right after Cam was drafted he said Tebow was a more accurate passer…. smh

by rscott94 on Nov 17, 2011 11:51 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I think Foxxy

Finally has everything he ever wanted in one player… He’s got the scrappy undertalented qb and a pounding run game all in one. He can even run the draw on 3rd and long. It would seem to be a match made in heaven.

You know what they say.

Only stat that matters at the end is that W.

Shame on the Jets for not being able to put the game away.

There was a story long ago about a man who saved the world. A legendary receiver with speed as fast as light itself. But he has passed on. His journey is one with the Raiders. But now, a new star has risen in the heart of the South. His veins bleeds orange. His legs are thick, his movement swift, and his hands are as large as the heart in his chest. His name is Sammy Watkins. And together with Sherlock Boyd, they will solve many mysteries together.

"It's not about how many times you get knocked down, it's about how many times you can get back up" - Tim Tebow

I understand all the praise and what not for this kid can get annoying, but with all that he’s been through, all the hate, people who have told him no, the fact that he still stands on his feet and comes out a winner is truly inspiring. I’m slowly gaining more and more respect and admiration for this kid.

I've always had a ton of respect for him

It’s really refreshing to see a professional athlete that isn’t caught up in himself and is a genuinely good guy. I just can’t stand the excessive hype he gets. It just seems like the media has to talk about him, be it good or bad.

by JDeLong42 on Nov 18, 2011 12:15 AM EST up reply actions

It's because of his attitude that the media talks about him so much though.

It’s just like any player with an interesting story. Be it a player returning from jail and playing top notch, a player’s loved one recently dying and playing like a man possessed, or a type of athlete that is so incredibly rare, like a Tim Tebow or Cam Newton.

We are the hollow men.
