Carolina Panthers & Philadelphia Eagles.. Twins?
In a previous post I made the comment that the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles are spitting images of each other this season so far. I would have never guessed in a million years that I would be making such a outlandish statement a few months ago, but that was then and this is now and below I will list several similarities that are just too obvious to ignore.
To be perfectly honest with you, deep down inside I like the idea of being in the same boat as the Philadelphia Eagles. I mean come on, Carolina Panthers on the same level as the "dream team" admit it, you like that thought also.
First lets talk about the big money heavyweights. While we may not have gone into free agency and made multi million dollar splashes like the Eagles did, that does not mean we didnt spend money on some of our very own big money heavyweights. First up; Charles Johnson DT one of the highest paid defensive ends in the league. Charles Johnson signed a staggering contract worth 72 million bones. Next up; Deangelo Williams, RB. Deangelo Williams also signed a jaw dropping contract of 42 million. Then we have Jon Beason, another huge money heavyweight. Ryan Kalil also got a solid contract then ofcourse Cam Newton, 22 million.
To avoid sounding redundant I wont go through and list each big money signing the Eagles made this offseason because we all know already. Vick, Young, Nmandi etc. So what we have here are two very ambitious teams, two teams that has spent some major dollar bills on great talent in the off season in hopes of hoisting the Lombardi trophy in Feb, two teams that have flashy, big playmaking QBs that put up huge statistics. Two teams that have explosive high powered offenses but very suspect defenses and two teams that are plagued by the injury bug.
Also another little thing these two teams have in common.. Both are 1-3, as a added bonus the only win these two teams have achieved are over very mediocre teams. St Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars.
I said a few months ago ever since VY made the 'Dream team' comment that we very much have our very own dream team in the NFL. We have pro bowlers, NFC champions and even a super bowl champion on this team. We have Deangelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart. We have Jeremy Shockey, Greg Olsen and Steve Smith. We have Jon Beason (injury not withstanding), Dan Connor. We have the likes of Ryan Kalil and Jeff Otah. And last but certainly not least, we have our own big playmaking, flashy, super talented and super athletic freak of nature QB Cam Newton.
In conclusion, much like our fellow dream team twin brother over in philly, despite being stacked with talent and excitement, we are both 1-3 and we both struggle to close out games and blow big leads. Thats why it would be a dream match up if we played the Eagles this season.. I mean, if that happened. One of us would have to win, right?... You would assume so anyway.

Uh what big leads did the Panthers besides a 13 point
lead against the Packers. The eagles are playoff contenders mostly every year, can’t say the same for the Panthers. Too early to compare the panthers to the eagles. Just my thoughts.

Well my wording was off, as in big leads I meant one against the packers. And im just talking about this season. Yes the Eagles in theory are constant playoff contenders. But this season, the fact remains is both teams are 1-3 and both teams have lost very winnable games. There is no denying the striking similitaries between us and the Eagles.

Just playing devil's advocate...
Couldn’t the same be said for the Arizona Cardinals?
Also 1-3, also lost three close games, also have a new starting QB and an iffy defense…
Furthermore....Cardinals and Eagles are both birds.

I may not always be right, but even a blind nut finds a squirrel every once in a while.
There's a HUGE difference between these two teams that you're obviously overlooking:
I hate the Eagles.
I love the Panthers.
True story.
Newton for '11 ROY!
Walker for '11 ROY!
Biyombo for '11 DPOY!

Both have an exceptional athlete at QB.
Both are 1-3.
Those are the two similarities that I think of first.
"Between you, me and the wall here, I had a bit of a doozy myself last night. Get this: A corn-fed harvest mouse, a hooker, a nun, a Flemish peasant woman, whips, chains, whistles yo-yo's, a circus midget. My grandmother riding by on a bicycle giving me the finger, and a duck! Now, I don't know 'bout you...Are you crying?"
Respectfully disagree. Two teams headed in opposite directions
The Eagles are vastly underacheiving while the Panthers despite their record are overacheiving. The Eagles are in the twilight of a coaching era while the Panthers are beginning a new era. Also the Eagles are playinfg unispired football (members of the defense were actually observerd on film walking during plays in the 4th quarter of the 49ers game last week. ) while the Panthers players have gone toe to toe with some of the NFL’s best teams for 4 quarters. No quit in the Panthers.
