ProFootballFocus.com had a great story yesterday, with the stats on deep pass attempts (I would have posted it yesterday but my connection kept going in and out), a Cam Newton leads the NFL in deep pass attempts (passes over 20 yards deep, in the air) with 43 (18% of Cam's total pass attempts). Giants QB Eli Manning with 38 is the only QB within 12 of Cam's total. Cam is 18 of 43 on these deep passes, with 2 drops, for 623 yards, with 3 TD's, and 2 ints. PFF for some reason includes the drops in calculating the QB's completion percentage, so Cam's is 46.5%, 11th in the NFL, with only 6 QB's over 50%.
While Cam has the most deep attempts in the NFL, the Cardinals Kevin Kolb has the last, at 5 of 11, only 6.4% of is total attempts. Tony Romo was tops in the NFL with 12 of 20, 0 drops (10.4% of his attempts), for 60%, 407 yards, 3 TD's, and 2 ints. Here are how the other QB's in the division ranked.
1st Cam Newton - 18 of 43 with 2 drops (18% of his attempts) for 623 yards and 3 TDs
4th - Drew Brees - 17 of 29, 0 drops (11.0% of his attempts), for 58.6%, 572 yards, 5 TDs, and 1 int.
16th - Josh Freeman- 4 of 14, 2 drops (6.4% of his attempts), for 42.9%, 156 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 int.
32nd - Matt Ryan - 4 of 25, 1 drop (11.5% of his attempts), for 20%, 156 yards, 0 TDs, and 1 int
