For Whom the Bell Tolls?
Byron was hardly a beacon of pass blocking prowess on this day. All you can do is grin and bear it!
The kid has high upside IMO. Especially considering how far he’s come as a undrafted rookie FA and the annotated offseason. He’s gonna have his ups and downs.

Ziemba played two plays, with one QB hurry.
I don’t even remember seeing Ziemba.

People who think we aren't better then last year....Delusional
#Panthers offense tied for 1st in NFL with 35 explosive plays (20+ yards). NE & Phi also w/ 35. Panthers had 44 explosive plays all of 2010.

Anybody that says we aren't better than last year is just a moron.
And I try not to call people out like that.

My take, too - and that of Rivera, from his PC today.
“Only a play away, and it’s coming soon.”
That fingertip deflection on the 2Q EZ pass to Smith especially galled him.
If that ball had just been a second later or sooner the momentum would of been HUGE..Hell of a play by the LB

I remember this same scenario a couple years back (well, more like 2004 lol) against Cincy...
Jake was driving for the win, had Moose in the endzone with his man beat, but because the safety was out of position and blew his assignment on the play he happened to be perfectly positioned to make the pick lol

I call bullshit on #5.
I guarantee we missed more than nine tackles on Turner. There were two or more every time he ran the ball. I’ll watch it again tomorrow to confirm, but I’m pretty sure that is wrong. Turner is a tough dude to tackle, especially when you’re trying to do it above the waist which we seemed intent on doing.

I didn't like Fua when we took him.
I think he’s gonna be one of those guys that is going to be out of the NFL in 3 years. We took him way too high. He should have been a 5th rounder.

There was a story long ago about a man who saved the world. A legendary receiver with speed as fast as light itself. But he has passed on. His journey is one with the Raiders. But now, a new star has risen in the heart of the South. His veins bleeds orange. His legs are thick, his movement swift, and his hands are as large as the heart in his chest. His name is Sammy Watkins. And together with Sherlock Boyd, they will solve many mysteries together.

Is Otah injured
Or just setting out being sore?
I don’t mean to challenge a person’s toughness so much as the report that he was setting out practice last week like the week before and he would be good to go. So was he injured and the media reports just made an assumption on his status, or is he only going to play when the team is in a position to win?

I could have sworn I saw Mclain in on a few tackles.
Fua disappeared, which is not good considering his girth.

it's pretty sad...
that our DTs had so few tackles.

Greetings Panther fans
I wanted to ask you guys a few questions about your division rival Falcons, but first I’d like to say that the Panthers are gonna be a good team someday with Cam Newton under center. Just absolutely incredible talent, I think this kid could have the best rookie year statistically ever.
He may only have won 1 game, but that defense isn’t quite there yet and he is a rookie under a rookie head coach, so it will take time, but the arrow is definitely pointing up for the Panthers.
Are the Falcons that good? You guys saw the game last Sunday, do you think my team the Lions has a great chance to win Sunday? Finally, do the Falcons have much of a defense or did the Cam and the Panthers have a bad day against them?
Thanks guys, wanted to hear a division rival’s opinion instead of the homers on the Falcoholic.

The Falcons are good...but you guys should be able to beat them.
We lost because we couldn’t stop Michael Turner. Our offense was doing fine except for two outstanding plays by their defense to tip passes and end up with INT’s. 2 of the 3 INT’s Cam threw were on great plays, the other was on a hail mary at the end of the game…so, I’d say their defense was more lucky than good last Sunday. But, out defense was atrocious, as Turner rammed it down our throats all day long.
The truth will set you free, but not until it is finished with you. ~David Foster Wallace
I may not always be right, but even a blind nut finds a squirrel every once in a while.
Honestly, you guys should run away with the game.
Their O-Line has suspect, Turner has not been very good for them (until I see otherwise, I’m calling his performance against us a fluke, given how they’ve typically played), and Ryan’s not had a very good season thus far. Their defense hasn’t really helped their situation much, either. The main reason they beat us is our own defense and special teams — we’ve been horrendous this season on those fronts, though I won’t deny that two rookie DTs and the loss of Beason and Davis for the season have really not helped us.
By the way, the Lions are my “dark horse” pick this season. The way you’ve played so far (that sting from the 49ers aside), I fully expect you to compete with the Packers for the NFC North — I don’t think the Bears have the gumption, and the Vikings… heh, well. But congrats on your season so far — you guys have been SORELY overdue for good times.
Thanks NX
I agree, we should be right there with the Pack all year. That 49er game stung A LOT even though we lost on a last minute missed tackle in the endzone. Had Jason Hanson made that fg, the td would’ve tied the game instead of the go-ahead score or had Delmas made that tackle a half a foot before Walker crossed the plain by 2 inches, we would’ve won also.
It hurt to lose after being 5-0 and losing at the end, but we are still 5-1. I’m hoping we can shut Turner down and force Ryan into errant throws because I have faith in our offense to put up plenty of points to win, its just up to our d contain the lead.

I don't think it's going to be that close...
If you guys can stop Turner (which I don’t see being much of a problem, he’s not going to run over Suh), you will win. Force Ryan to beat you and he’s just not going to get it done, especially the way you’ve been playing this year. He has performed great against lower competition but looked horrible against better teams (which is why he still has a respectable 82.1 QB rating). I’ll be pulling for you (as I do most weeks), you guys deserve to go far. You’ve taken your hard times and built an excellent team out of them.

I watched the Panther-Saints game when my team played Monday night and was impressed with how well the Panthers played the Saints. I mean, you guys are a few healthy players and one more offseason of picks/free agents from competing for the division. I like Cam Newton, the Panthers are not there yet, but one more year and they will take off.
Good luck and until we meet in Detroit. We’ll be waiting for Cam and the boys to show up and give us a run for our money, that’s for sure. Nobody is overlooking the Panthers with Cam under center.

few healthy players
I think this is key, Give us back TD, Beason, and Ron Edwards and I see our defense as a completely different team.
Excuses, Excuses, I know but I really think we are one first round defensive BPA Draft Pick from having a Defense that will not only, not lose us games but help us win a few as well. (and yes I am one of those few people still hold out hope for TD so my comments can be chalked up to insanity)
(6) NT Sione Fua (-2.7 rating) and DT Terrell McClain (-1.2 rating) - Combined and 0 pressures 0 tackles on running plays
This is our problem, should we have draft anyone else?
Maybe So, Here Are Some Numbers
65. DT Terrell McClain (6-1 5/8, 291) – 6 games – 6 tackles – 3 solo
77. Titans DT Jurrell Casey (6-0 5/8, 300) – 5 games, 16 tackles, 12 solo – 1 sack
87. Colts DT Drake Nevis (6-0 5/8, 294) – 4 games – 16 tackles – 8 solo – 6 QB Pressures
97. Sione Fua (6-1 1/8, 308) – 6 games – 8 tackles – 4 solo
253. Redskins NT Chris Neild (6-1 3/4, 319) – 5 games – 6 tackles – 3 solo – 1.5 sacks
Casey at 21, ans Nevis at 22 are slao both younger than McClain and Fua who are 23.
He's been inactive a bunch IIRC
