Ask The Falcoholic!
This ought to be one hell of a game.
Neither one of our teams really want to be in the basement of the NFC South, and frankly there's enough talent between these two squads to put together a fierce challenger to the Saints. It just hasn't come together for either of us yet.
You know the drill from my numerous appearances here over the years. I'm happy to answer any and all questions you have about the Falcons, so fire away.
Also, if you could kindly recommend this so it remains near the top of the list, I would be grateful.

So what exactly is going on with the Falcons?
You guys looked so strong in the begining of the Packers game but then you fizzled out?
The Falcons are struggling to put together four quality quarters right now
Whether it’s a lack of conditioning, poor coaching or a breakdown in execution, I can’t entirely say. It’s likely a combination of the three.

What about
Julio Jones and John Abraham, do you think they would be playing come sunday? Falcons had no enough pass rush without him. Are there any injuries on your team? Also seems to me like Tony Gonzalez would have a day with our secondary.

Abe's a definite
Jones may not play. That complicates things for the Falcons, who will have to feature Harry Douglas and Kerry Meier more heavily.
Keep in mind that even without Abraham, the Falcons got four sacks. The true key to that line is Jonathan Babineaux in the middle.

to be fair though
They did have 2 OTs out and one out of position
True
But the Falcons were without Abe. I think it (kinda, sorta) even outs.

Don't tempt me, lol.
Seriously though…as much as I hate seeing Gonzo twice a year, I really do like seeing him play the other 14 games. He’s definitely one of the (if not the) best TE’s ever.

On a scale of 1-10...
With 1 being “not worried at all”, and 10 being “shitting our pants in fear”, how worried are you guys about facing Cam Newton on Sunday?

Me personally?
Maybe a six. Most of the fanbase? At least an eight.
Newton is scary because he’s so versatile and has such a great arm, but I think he’s a little too mistake-prone here in his rookie season for me to crap my pants in fear. Check back with me in a season or two and I might be there.

How do you feel about your defense?
Going into the draft I felt you needed to pick up some help there, then you go and trade away the farm for a WR prospect. Does the future look dour to you, as a fan, on that side of the ball? If not, why?
Also, how’s your run blocking holding up? I know running on GB is a futile effort but they haven’t seemed to click this year in general. Is it on the OC, on the line, on Turner, or on your ineffective play in the passing game?
I actually like the D
They’ve been, with the exception of a brutal game against the Seahawks, the better unit this season. There’s a lot of young talent there that’s starting to gel.
Our run blocking has been subpar. It’s on everybody, frankly, and it’s why Turner has three games this season where he’s averaging well under four yards a carry.

I think so
It’s a crucial year for him, too, because he needs to make his case for a job before John Abraham walks at the end of the year.
If he finishes up the season with four or five sacks and looks good for the rest of the season, I think he’ll be given a shot to start.

Oh, and here's a colorful one
How do Falcons fans feel about Mike Smith’s appearance? Any jokes? There’s a running joke over here from the play60 commercial that the guy looks like a bonafide pedophile.
Really?

I think part of the pedophile thing is just the rivarly talking, FWIW. ;)
"Between you, me and the wall here, I had a bit of a doozy myself last night. Get this: A corn-fed harvest mouse, a hooker, a nun, a Flemish peasant woman, whips, chains, whistles yo-yo's, a circus midget. My grandmother riding by on a bicycle giving me the finger, and a duck! Now, I don't know 'bout you...Are you crying?"
Don't get mad, but why is Matty Ice looking like Just A Guy at times this year?
Is it because he’s being asked to pass 50 times a game?
I don’t understand why Michael Turner is being all but neglected in the offense. Yesterday in the comments of James Dator’s Monday Morning Optimist article, I said that he still looks like a 1500 yard back—if you guys would actually commit to running the ball.

I don’t understand why Turner doesn’t run more either…and my fantasy team demands answers and a change in your game plan. (After this week, of course.)

Heh
Over the last three weeks, Turner has 53 carries for 146 yards. If we round up graciously, that’s a nice 2.8 yards per carry average. I don’t have to tell you that’s brutal.
I think they need to do a better job of calling runs that don’t end with him plunging up the gut, but Turner’s become more or less a boom or bust guy. He has one or two huge carries a game if you’re willing to commit to him wholesale, but he regularly loses yards or picks up minimal gains, too. What the Falcons need is a passing game defenses respect, so Turner has more holes.

The Biggest Change For Matt Ryan Is The Increased Number Of Sacks He's Taking
Ryan has been sacked 14 times so far this season, and that projects to a season total of around 45 sacks.
For Ryan’s career, he’s only averaged 1.3 sacks per game, 20.5 per season.
by PanthersRoar on Oct 11, 2011 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions
How're yall feeling
on the season (1-10 scale?). It has been said a million times but it seems to me that when Matt Ryan is running the no huddle this offense is everything it should be. I also thought that the defense has always been good but not great (couple great players and a really good defensive coach but never seemed to have something whether it was depth or just a few extra elite players). What’s your take on that? Someone said earlier that yall have some younger guys that are starting to gel. (I’m not arguing your point, just curious) Who specifically?
I’m actually from Atlanta originally and then lived in Douglasville a bit but spent most of my years in Carolina and when it comes to football it’s definitely Panthers first. Good luck this week I think it’s going to be a great game.
"When I've arrived, close my eyes"
Does Julio Jones get his first NFL touchdown catch? The Panthers pass defense is ranked within the top ten of the NFL, I believe.

The league needs more colorful coaches. Their reactions are part of what makes it a fun sport to watch. I miss seeing Holmgren stewing on the sidelines like he’s about to erupt and Singletary having a heart attack trying to call a timeout.

So what's up with Ryan?
He has really struggled this season, and I have to admit I’m pretty surprised. Thought this would be a break out year for him, but he’s not been effective at all. Is this just an issue with the offense across the board being in a funk?
I actually have a post at the site right now
If you can bring yourself to hop over to The Falcoholic. It examines this very issue.
The short answer, though, is that a combination of Ryan struggling, the line struggling, Turner struggling, the receiver struggling to get open and Mike Mularkey’s inept game planning have added up to create an abysmal situation.

Well, I took him as my QB in the fantasy league I'm playing
So I’d be very happy if he threw for 350 yards and 3 TDs this week….

Not sure if this has been asked on here (though I am sure lots of people have asked this), but based on what you have seen of Julio Jones, is he worth the massive price you all paid to get him? I mean, you guys are out a boatload of draft picks for just one player…

But I want to put my 2 cents in on Julio.
Everytime we get the ball to him, I get excited because he can score from any where, ironic Im saying that since he hasn’t scored, but he is one of those players.
Right now, he looks like a solid reciever, and when the offense gets straightened out, he will be a top WR in the league.
Whether that was worth the picks we gave up, everyone will have their own say.

It looks to me that Micheal Turner has lost nearly all his explosion.
He seems to be a fatter, slower MJD to my (honestly) untrained eye. From what I’ve seen, and admittedly it isn’t a whole lot, when he does break off one of his “boom” runs, he gets caught from behind, which in my opinion should never happen to a running back. While I understand his struggles this year may be because of the OL, do you think his workload is finally catching up with and his time as a feature back is nearing it’s end?
I think it is drawing to a close
Turner has, at best, a couple more years of being a back who can handle a workload and occasionally rip off a huge run. The Falcons have to start looking for his replacement.

I am going to the game
I am driving to Atlanta and going to the game by myself. Any recommendations as to what I should see or where I should eat? I have very little knowledge of Atlanta.
Depends on what you like really...
I hear Varsity is a sort of local traditional place, but I personally have never been there. They do have a nice burger place called Vortex, which I’ve been to a few times and enjoyed. Atlanta is a major city, so you can find pretty much anything you want if you look hard enough.

ONLY North Carolinians know about true BBQ. No one else can get it right. We’re so proficient we even have two different styles of BBQ (ketchup based western style, and vinegar based eastern style).
Even South Carolina gets it wrong… throwing some mustard junk in there. Bleh.
Mustard BBQ kicks ketchup BBQ's ass and makes it wish it were real BBQ.

I’m assuming Grimes is your #1CB—and not Robinson.

According to ESPN
Julio Jones will not play this week due to a hamstring injury. How concerning is this given the offense’s troubles and primarily Roddy White’s severe case of the “dropsys” ?

It's concerning
They’ll give you guys a heavy dose of Turner because of the weaknesses in your run defense, and rely heavily on Tony Gonzalez. That’s the best winning formula I can come up with.

I know it’s pretty early to start talking about “must-wins” but the Falcons are kinda floundering and if they want to get back to the NFC Championship they need to right this ship quick, do they not?
