Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha had his contract terminated due to a failure to reach certain incentives that were apparently designed to not be attained. Hence the grumpy CB finally has his way out of Oakland. Oh course, don't tell that to a certain Raiders blogger who is apparently in denial (we can relate!). So check out the incentives Asomugha had to hit:
To achieve his incentives, Asomugha had to play in a greater number of defensive plays in 2010 than he did in 2009, and this season Asomugha played in only 14 games whereas he played in all 16 in 2009.
He also could have achieved his incentives by improving upon on his interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks this season -- but he didn't have any interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks this season.
Well nowhere to go but up next year on those incentives! ;)
My thought here is if Big Cat really wants to make a splash and shed his 'cheap' imagine he could simply go sign the most sought after defender of the off-season. Imagine Aso lined up across from Gamble in 2011. Imagine being able to take a Roddy White, Colston or Williams out of a game simply by having this guy on the field.
Think we need to improve the pass rush? Add a shut down corner to the secondary and you help those guys back there tremendously. I love Captain Munnerlyn as much as anyone but I'd prefer to see him in the slot as he continues to return punts as well.
It would also make picking Newton or AJ Green easier not needing one of those top CBs. The fact is adding a top corner to our secondary makes that defense legit real quick no matter what we do at DT.
Since we've been watching a lot of highlight videos:
here's a vid Revis vs. Aso
