Around SBN: Watch Out For Cowboys UDFA Tim Benford

Vince Young has gone out on a limb in the above article and stated that he has no intention on being anyone's backup.

""I’m going to go into the organization, the team, and compete. That’s all I can do, and let them make their own decision after that," Young said. "Definitely I am a starting quarterback, an elite quarterback in the NFL. I want to go ahead and start. But like it always is, the coaches have the last word."

I scoffed a little bit at the notion that Young is an elite QB in the NFL yet... but he is definitely on his way. He has improved steadily this season and last, and could benefit from a solid coaching staff and front office. I think we have that in Carolina, and I certainly think we can offer him the chance to come in and start right away. I see it as a low risk/high reward deal if we can sign him to an incentive laden contract and let him prove his mettle. If he isn't up to snuff, we set him free and move on.

With that attitude he'll be an amazing starter.

Wait… is the UFL still solvent?

Definitely pulling for the UFL to succeed...

they understand that they are a rung below the NFL, but still pursue a high quality of football…it’s a great spot for younger guys to get good experience, but also for some vets that for one reason or another aren’t in the NFL right now (bad play? Go to the UFL, refine some skills; Good play, but old? Play in the UFL, teach some of these young guys what they need to succeed at the next level). I hate that people just shit on the UFL because it’s not the NFL…it’s the closest thing to NFL talent since the USFL (it’s better than NFL Europe even).

Man, I miss the USFL.

The UFL is pretty cool. People better start liking it, because there’s a good chance that it’s the only semi-pro football we get to see for a while if these CBA negotiations get nasty.

Lip service?

Sounds great and could lead to a bigger contract (self-promotion)… but is he truly ready to put in the time in the film room?

i like vince young as an athlete

he definitely knows how to make plays. but his work ethic and attutude are what i shy away from. last thing we need is a sefl absorbed slacker running our offense. if he pulss a 180 like vick (personality wise and dediction wise) then he could be a very good qb in this league

If he pulled a 180 like Vick did, I’d venture to say that he could be a top-5 QB. He has all the physical tools, it’s just the mental stability issues that concern me.

He has no reason to pull a 180

He’s a spoiled brat whose making buttloads of money and not putting in much effort. After he gets hired, nothing will force that to change, unlike the life-changing scenario Vick went through.

My favorite is the one where the person (interesting screen name: moelester, lol) says that Vince Young is a narcissist, and even goes through the trouble of giving the official DSM-IV* definition of a narcissist.

*-Or so he claims is the official definition. I don’t know, because I’m not a Psychiatrist and don’t have a copy of the DSM-IV.
