There have been a lot of posts talking about how they want Nick Fairley; well I am not a fan of him. With a nickname of Nick not so Fairley, meaning he has been known for making some unfair moves. In the National Championship, he lifted LaMicheal James helmet and slammed it down after a play. Do we need that? I really don’t think so, our defense isn’t that bad where we need someone who does that.
After one good season you say we should draft him. His stats in 2009 were pretty bad. If last year he went to the draft he would be a 5th rounder. Most first picks have a sturdy college career. For example Sam Bradford played well in all of his seasons, except when he was hurt. Stafford played and had a great college career.
Physically he reminds of Albert Haynesworth. He doesn’t seem to be the most athletic. He can make tackles and sacks, isn’t that the responsibility of most players on defense. When you give a D-line time to get to the QB they will get to the QB. Its not like Nick is special because he does that. Our defensive ends get there fast enough.
If we had the first pick last year I would say go ahead and draft a Defensive Tackle because Ndamukong Suh is amazing. Another thing is how despite are we for a defensive tackle we can sign a guy like Paul Spicer or Anthony Montgomery.
Now that we have Sean McDermott, we do need a tackle. Do we want an unfair and out of shape guy? I don’t think so. Plus with the hiring of Rob Chudzinski we need some weapons on offense. So why draft Fairley?
Are we trying to only build on defense?
There are upsides to him but I really don’t think we need him at this time.
Should we draft him?
What do you think?
