Put up or Shut up

Free agency is quickly approaching and Mr. Richardson has made promises to do the things necessary to bring this franchise back to prominence. With that being said there are some positions that can be quickly addressed with the names that are starting to float around as potentially or already available. First I guess we would have to identify the positions of need - QB, DT, CB, OG and maybe WR (I know Gettis and LaFell are coming along) specifically come to mind. With that said two of these can be addressed very quickly and upgraded very nicely through free agency if he truly is willing to shell out the cash.

First is QB we lost on Luck, oh friggn well, time to get over it. Would I have loved to have him, you bet; however, he was untested and never played a down in the NFL. Now news is coming out that there is a tried andtested veteran who is unhappy with the current situation as second fiddle to the dog murderer in Philly.

I say go get him. When he was in Kolb put up real stats. Philly trusted him to trade away the time tested McNabb not knowing that Vick would be something special when he got his shot. He won't be cheap but he will be worth it. This wil give us a QB that is capable of finding the targets and can throw the ball over the o-line with out hitting them in the back of the head. You keep Moore, Clausen (trade bait), Pike and your ready for 2011.

Second we address CB. This was address in a thread earlier today but I'll mention it again here. The Raiders loss should be our gain, Nnamdi Asomugha was declared a free agent today:

He should be a Panther by the end of the week. I can't say good by you no tackling, non covering, burnt toast Richard Marshall fast enough. We should be good on cap space so Mr. Richardson get out your check book time to put your money where your mouth is.

Next we look at the draft, number 1 overall. What a sweet place to be, pick of the litter. In my opinion at this point it's either Fairly or Green. Fairly is the pick to fill the need at DT and would be a wise decision, run stuffer in the middle. No one would fault us if this was our pick; BUT, I just told Mr. Richardson to go out and get Kolb. A real QB, and a real QB needs real weapons. Now just imagine for a minute your a defensive coordinator and your looking at this offense - QB Kolb, RB Steward, Williams, Goodson, WR Smith, Green, LaFell, Gettis - tell me you ain't skeerd? Got to admit I was against taking another WR this year at first too but when you think about the possibilities that this pick could open up it gets a little scary.

Now I think that you can find a serviceable OG in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the draft. So this plan really only leaves us with the one gap at DT and there should be some FA's out there that could fill in for the time being. One that crossed my mind (I know you'll think I'm crazy because of the attitude, I just think he was in the wrong system 3-4) is Albert Haynesworth. When he was in TN in the 4-3 he was a force in the middle. Oh well that my thoughts on this crazy off season for now, but one things for sure Mr. Richardson, it's time to put up or shut up.
