A little Preseason trivia...

In 2004, Green Bay scored two offensive touchdowns during the preseason, and averaged nine points per game. They turned it around in the regular season, scoring 26.5 points per game. That was fifth best in the NFL.

In 2008, Detroit had the NFL's best defense in the preseason, surrendering 6.8 points per game. The regular season was another story. They gave up 32.3 points per game when it counted, which was worst in the league.

That same season, Seattle was the most prolific preseason team, averaging 25.8 points per game. But as with the Detroit defense, the regular season changed things. The Seahawks struggled on offense, 24 teams did better than their 18.4 ppg.

And then there are the 2009 New York Jets. They led the league in defense after allowing just 14.2 points per game. But their preseason results weren't so great--they were 29th in the league, giving up 24 points per game.

So....

According to this, Our offense is going to be just fine but our defense is going to suck!
Okay we’ll just use this trivia for the offense, I cant imagine our D playing outside of the top 10 this year.

I would consider this as well

The Jets were the league’s best defense last year
The Ravens were the third best defense.
Pittsburgh was 12th.
The Titans were awful at 28th, but they opened their season with a train-wreck of a performance. After the bye they allowed just 19.9 points per game, which would have been good for 11th place.

On offense, the Jets were 17th, the Steelers 12th, the Titans 16th, and the Ravens 9th.

So I expect our defense to get a little more knocked around than they were in preseason, but not too badly. The offense, on the other hand, should do a lot better.

Haha Sorry,

That was just my first thought. I still think they will do fine this year, its not like we just stop getting sacks right? Like I said, I cant imagine the Panthers’ D not being in the top 10. Hopefully they will be top 5 but I would be more than satisfied with a top 10 defense and at least a top 16 offense.

I was going to type the exact same thing.

Someone please find an example of a team that played lights out on defense, but the

offense sucked in preseason. Then in the regular season the defense kept playing great, and the offense turned it around. I’m sure there’s one somewhere (maybe Colts?). If not, there will be one this year.

Where there’s a will… I want to be in it.

I don't like this kind of trivia.

Can we play something else?

I've got an old copy of Madden '97 we can play.

We’re pretty good in there, too. Kevin Greene around the edge! Eric Davis interceptions! Sam Mills FTW!!!

So is your glass half-full or half-empty?

We’re going to be like the 2004 Packers on offense, right? Especially when you think about some of the defenses we play this year.

Defensively, we should be a lot like the 2007 Steelers, who were number one in the preseason but slipped to number two in the regular season.

Or will it be the 2008 Lions on defense, and the 2007 Chiefs on offense? The Chiefs finished last in the preseason on offense and barely lifted their game to 29th in the league during the regular season?

I wonder what lessons we can take from this research… :)

my glass is getting pretty empty

just because our guys did well in the preseason doesnt not mean theyre proven yet.

My Glass is overflowing

Our offense will be number 1 and so will our defense!!
But seriously, our offense will be fine once Smitty and Stewart, (and eventually Otah) play and our Offense will be the same as last years 5 games. The defense will be better than last years, including the last 5 games where they were playing pretty good. With an easier schedule I see us finishing 11-5 but if not that good, we will definitely be better than last years 8-8 record.

Hmm, That argument always seems to work.

No matter what the circumstances may be.

im liking the Gmen being our season opener. We seen last year what this team could do when it is playing on all cylinders. The Giants couldn’t do nothing with Stewart last year and the year before that Williams and Stewert were having a take it to the house contest with The Giants RB duo. Giants have just as many questions as we do but with them its on defense. Are they really going to be able to stop Double Trouble? They haven’t the last two times we met. With a young team like we have a win on the road in the giants new stadium could be just the confidence we need to have a great year. Lets open up Giant Stadium the same way we closed it. With a blowout

They'll have to gear up to stop the run.

After how Stewart ran all over them last year, they must align all their forces to stop that, and hope they don’t see Moore beat them through the air.

If he starts out accurate and efficient, they’re in for a long day. Eli’s gonna be in for a bigger pass rush than he saw last December.

This is pretty sad, Anquan Boldin is a better QB than Hunter Cantwell

Hunter Cantwell-QB- Ravens Sep. 9 – 2:54 pm et

Ravens released QB Hunter Cantwell from their practice squad.

Anquan Boldin, who entered Florida State as a quarterback, will be the emergency third QB this year. Cantwell is no longer worth a stash even in the deepest of Dynasty leagues despite the hype lavished on him by Panthers coaches this offseason.

If Boldin can be there emergency QB i think Armanti could be ours considering how long its been since Boldin has been under center.

ahh gotcha…I don’t get why we drafted 3 qb’s anways. I know Armanti is changing positions but he looked better throwing the ball then Cantwell and Pike
