daringantt Panthers also signed Gs Dan Santucci (Bengals 7th rounder ’09) and Shawn Murphy (Dolphins 4th rounder ’08).

daringantt Santucci and Murphy were the other two practice squad guys, not on the 53.

Woods got cut?

The Saints traded up to grab him right before we took Norwood I think.

I’m glad we kept Irvin around. He just needs to get in shape after losing a year and getting his strength back

Now they have two of this years best WR Free agents

and we don’t.

Guess we know which team wants to win the Super Bowl.

I would guess all 32 teams do :)

But I understand your point.

If you really want to do something, you will find a way. If you don't, you will find an excuse.

All it means is that the Panthers believe Gettis and/or Martin’ ceiling is > one year of Housh.

In the end I they’ll be right

But is one year of Jarrett worth more than one of Housh

Personally, I think not. DJ is just going to be another Drew Carter/ DeShaun Foster that we hope reaches his ceiling and fails. I really wish John Fox and Hurney could admit mistakes and move on.

Still hoping for the best ,and our D looks like it may be back to amazing, but if this is the best offense we see for the next two years it will be disappointing.

The Panthers are banking on it.

It’s maddeningly frustrating but we hardy saw Jarrett this preseason. The organization though have shown they have enough faith in the receivers to roll with the guys they have. Last season this wasn’t the case- hence why they brought back Moose, they didn’t believe Jarrett was ready.

I’m as critical of Jarrett as they come, but given he survived the cuts yesterday it speaks volumes to what the Panthers think he can be, or that they see something in him. At this point I’m in awe of their ability to evaluate young talent particularly in the last 2-3 years, so we’ll all just have to wait and see.

I think even if Jarrett becomes a Pro Bowl talent, he will not be with the team his entire career. He probably won’t forget all the flak he took, and will look for the first opportunity to leave once he establishes himself as a legit receiver in this league.

stuff 'bout stuff.

When I saw Jarrett at training camp he was awful,

and while we have some of the best young talent in the NFL, Fox and Co are horrendous at drafting WR’s. They have 1 in all the years they have been here that has been worth anything. Our starters, that he picks, disappear when they go to other teams.

I’m not saying that we won’t have some pivotal WR’s in years to come. I do feel that this year we should have picked up another Vet and made Smith and the fans happy.

The Keyshawn FA experiment may have failed (questionable), but the Steven Davis experiment took us to the Super Bowl.

So then he has never drafted a proven WR

Hey, I have a lot of faith in Fox as a coach. I only wish that he could admit when he was wrong and bring in FA’s to plug the holes. Baltimore is gonna be evil this year because they want to win this year, and winners will want to play there. I am all for developing our own talent, but we need to be able to develop a winning franchise that people want to come to.

BYW James, Thank you for being so positive.

I think Fox has a subconscious desire to see receivers fail, since he played defensive back.

Baltimore has a different mindset... their window is closing

Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are the heart and soul of that team… both of them only have a couple of years left at best. They’re doing their best to bring in guys on the offensive side of the ball, but no Anquan Boldin or TJ Housmanzadeh will change that.

Furthermore, Boldin is about to turn 30… and they traded pick for him. Baltimore will be deadly now, but Carolina are wanting to be deadly for the next decade.

So are we officially calling this a rebuilding/retooling year?

I don't think so

This year is about development, from every single standpoint.

I truly believe this season is going to be feast or famine for the Panthers. I could very well be wrong, but I don’t see a 7-9 or 8-8 season. I think we’ll either have over 10 wins, or 6 or less.

The reason for this is that the young players are in really important skill positions: QB, WR, DE, DT… we’re expecting a lot of guys to step up in vital areas. In this way the Carolina Panthers are making a commitment that they want to be more like, say, the Indianapolis Colts and less like the Cinncinati Bengals.

Indy had a year like our a couple of years back. They cut Marvin Harrison, let Edgerrin James go and trusted Reggie Wayne and Joseph Addai to fill the void; granted, they have Peyton Manning but there was still a leap of faith.

We’e seeing a Panthers team reluctant to bring in a veteran QB because they believe developing Clausen and Pike is more important. They didn’t get a T.O or Housh because they believe in the guys they drafted. Should Richard Marshall leave for greener pastures they made sure they had a bevy of DBs on tap to fill the void.

Rebuilding? No really, because we still have our foundation.

Retooling? Maybe a little, but I see this more as a fresh coat of paint to liven things up. We just have to wait and have faith that paint dries how we expected.
