Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Steve's 53

Ok now that we have all of the Pre-Season games in the books I can knock out our 53. And this was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Star-divide

QB 2: Moore, Clausen

No need to waste our time with more. We can just let Money play QB if need be. But what are the chances of that?

RB 4: nuff said

FB 1: nuff said

TE 3: nuff said

WR 5: Smith, Jarrett, LaFell, Edwards, Gettis,

OL 8: Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Otah, Mack Bern, Schwartz, Williams, 1 player not on the team yet.

So that's 23 on offense.

DE 4: Brown, Hardy, Brayton, Johnson

No need to keep Moore. He is 29. That is all there is to it. good job buddy. Glad the light finally came on for you. Hope you catch on somewhere else real soon. Good luck. We need that spot. Sorry buddy.

DT 5: Leonard, Johnson, Tyler, Landri, Irvin

This is Irvins rookie season. He stays for now.

LB 7: Davis, Beason, Connor, Anderson, Norwood, Williams, Harris

Davis will be back. I wouldnt have him do it. But they will. And he is.

CB 6: Gamble , Marshall, Munnerlyn, Wilson, Witherspoon, McClain

S 4: Godfrey, Martin, Pugh, Francisco or Hudson

Francisco has not been able to play. But he can. He is a special teams veteran. and I think we will need him there. Hudson I do not like at all. We can put Wilson in that Rover or Wolf or whateveryou want to call it. Or Francisco when he comes back. Stanford will go to the PS after that showing last night.

26 on D.

K 1: Kasay

P: 1 Baker

KOS 1: Carter

LS 1: Jansen

Now this is one that could see changing. It all depends on how the Panther feel about losing Wright, and how well Martin can fill that role. So we could have 6 WR's or 1 LS. But for now I am counting it as we keep Jansen. Because it seems like Kalil is the only guy who can snap a ball.

4 on ST. And Boom that's 53. Championship!

Meeks drafted him for a reason

That is because he has a particular skillset. He was out all last year. So this is his first year on the field. hayden has had a lot of time and his play annoys me.

"four different Qbs in one year"

if we actually needed a 3rd quarterback, at this point its looking like Pike or Cantwell aren’t any more capable than Vinny Testaverde was. If we have to play a game with Cantwell or Pike at QB we’re in trouble already. So if they can’t even provide some type of depth, you gotta make room for guys that do.

I think there's plenty of room for Eric Moore.

You have 6 corners and 4 safeties. I really don’t think that’s necessary. I didn’t watch the last game, so I’m not going to say this with certainty, but I don’t even think a couple of those defensive backs have done enough to warrant a spot over Moore.

stuff 'bout stuff.

Moore is 29

By a couple of those corners you could only be talking about McClain and Witherspoon. Maybe Wilson too. But Witherspoon can fill 3 roles for sure CB,KR,PR. And he has been making plays. McClain is talented. And that is why he is getting a spot. Stanford blew his chances IMO last night.
But maybe they keep Moore. I wouldn’t. He is old. And if we have a lock out then he will be 31 32 when we come back. Screw that. Keep a guy who could be a factor instead of a guy who will never see the field or get a jersey on game day.

I said defensive backs, not corners.

That also includes safeties. I’m not going to say which two or three, ‘cause I don’t think there’s any point in calling them out since your list won’t influence who gets selected. I also don’t think his age should be considered. Linemen often play ‘til their mid-30s. Not all of them experience deteriorating skill either. We’ll just wait and see what they do I guess.

stuff 'bout stuff.

DBs can play on special teams.... DL? Not so much

That’s a major factor to consider, especially without Wallace Wright who was going to be WR and ST depth.

The past two years they've only carried 9 defensive backs.

He has 10. Lose one and add Eric Moore. Problem solved.

Moore stays over Irvin, IMO

He certainly merits on play.

As you said, it’s really Irwin’s 1st season – he can spend it on the PS, honing his skills. At this point, they’re nowhere near as productive as Moore’s If you say, “What do we need a 5th DE for?,” I’d counter, "What do we need a 5th DT for?

And 29 just makes it under the Panthers “Don’t trust anybody over 30” rule of thumb.

(And here’s a blast from the past: back in the 60’s, that was the mantra of the blossoming youth culture that is now pervasive throughout the land. Like the cell phone, there was actually a time in history when we didn’t have one.)

Other than that tweaking, I agree with pretty much everything you said, and I Rec’d the thread.

thanks for the Rec

We don’t need 5 DTs. But Irvin could develop into a player. I’m pretty sure if we put him on the ps, someone will pick him up. I wouldn’t be upset if we cut Irvin for Moore. If that is the direction they want to go. I just wouldn’t do it if it were up to me.

I feel we need all those DBs though.
