It's been a rough start to the season. I couldn't be more excited for this team either. Some of you may have read my negative posts> there haven't been many, I tend to get melodramatic during a game, but I cool down and try to be realistic. So, here is a realistic homer article. I will maintain and stand by my statement that this was the best team we have ever put on a field...I also said you wouldn't be able to tell from the first 3 or 4 weeks. If you've played a sport, then you know what I am talking about. If you haven't, there is no slight on you, it's just a different perspective. Blue Chip players can make or break a franchise. Spending low draft picks and finding blue chips is a rare thing, but the panthers have hit alot more then they've missed. I have repeated the thought that this team just needs time to gel. It's almost time. I am not sure we'll beat New Orleans, but as a die hard fan, I'm going to say, yes, we beat our division rivals...in a blow out. Yes, you can slam me for that statement, I can say what I want for my team. The reasons to be excited will be detailed after the jump
There is only one bust on this team. I wont say who, but you know who it is. Right about now, the entire offensive scheme should be getting put into place and this means you'll see an active Armanti Edwards and a fading away of the fullback position. An offensive scheme doesn't get changed over night and you also don't announce to the league that you are moving in a different direction. You show them the new direction, when it is ready, not while the glue is still wet. Remember the Miami Dolphins that ran a very bland preseason package, but came out with the Wild Cat and stunned New England.
Panther fans...May I introduce you to the West Coast, Mountaineer package. I'll call it the "gold rush". Your key position players are as follows. Lafell and Gettis alternate per package. Smith is well...he's rule 89. Goodson is checkdown and slot. Williams and Stewart are the same. So what makes this so different? The screen pass and wildcat...with a playmaker that can actually throw. In the mountaineer package, you have the option of checkdown, run, handoff, or pass. You also have the personel available for max protect and a free receiver running unchecked somewhere on the field. It doesn't sound right typing it, but trust me, the x's and o's are there. You haven't seen it yet, because the glue isn't dry. Trust me, it's coming. The craziest thing about this sort of thing, is just how simple it is to run. Might I also add, this formation lines your qb out on a post, a pass from armanti to Clausen buys receivers time for deep routes and Clausen the vision to get the ball there. It's just a theory, but I don't think I am far from the truth on it.
I'd like to end this with a ray of hope. the 2007 Giants got destroyed in the first 2 games of 07 and barely beat a subpar Washington team, they also lost some blow outs that year, they finished that year 10-6 and went on the beat an undefeated team. Starting 0-3 is bad, but it's not the end. Do yourself a favor and stop listening to the prognosticators and media. Their job hasn't been to report the news in a LONG time. Listen to the post game conferences and how they try to bait Fox and Clausen into throwing people under the bus for a sound bite. They are the enemy of entertainment. They are also wrong very often. The truth is, you the fan, know more about your team then they will ever know. You watch with dedicated fervor, take it personal when things go bad, and feel like you've won when your team has, why? Because, as a fan, you are an important part of the team. The only thing I ask of you, is give this team time. We have more blue chips and prospects than most teams.
Carolina is headed to New Orleans this week. My money is on this team waking up...did you see the 44 yard pass to Lafell. That was in zone coverage against deep safeties to prevent the deep ball...it still got there. So, do I think Clausen in the answer. DAMN RIGHT!
