I went to the game today as did the head honchos around here, perhaps they will post comments letting me know what they think. From what I saw today it looks like the right side of the O line collapses at snap, Schwartz and Bernadeau just can't hold their blocks, not even a little. Don't get me wrong, Gross and Wharton aren't doing great either, but most of the pressure and penetration is coming off Schwartz and Bernie's side. Clausen had some growing pains, but to his credits made line adjustments and went through his reads on receivers. He did miss some wide open guys, but he is learning, he is rookie. Just to get some flames, Moore is not a rookie and should able to make reads, chuckle. Sorry, had to be done, got a rep to uphold, tee hee. He needs to learn to throw to his checkdowns or position himself to see better or something because he had Deangelo and wide open in middle of the field a couple times, but he will learn. Oddly they didn't go to Smith much today and the poor guy looks a little frustrated. Gettis has ability to stretch the field but needs work, I see a decent future for him though. I must admit I was a little pissed to see D-Will take it to the two to watch Stewart take it in, but again he is the bruiser and Williams the speedster. Clausen did check down and dump it off in flats and throw ball away instead of trying to force it, good sign, he has a decent pocket presence, feels the rush coming. Goodson, that we have all been high on had a lot of drops today. He was pulling the old trying to run before you catch it deal, turning his body to go upfield before he had it, hit him right in the hands, bad Goodson. The defense was decent, linebackers and d-line that is. Godfrey laid some serious lumber one play and for once didn't blow a coverage. Marshall got took out a lot, thank god. The db's are still having a hard time playing man, they just can not get in the receivers pocket, can't do it. The droppeds interception chances by all of the defense was horrible, they could have had, I kid you not, six interceptions. These would not have been incredible grabs either, I'm talking hit them in the hands, one guy even got hit between the numbers and dropped it. Connor was oddly substituted for quite a bit, he has proved himself, let him play. The d- line still can't wrap up and make tackles in the backfield. Landri is proving to be a decent player, good penetration, not tackling skill, he got held one play badly. There were some horrible calls at the game, I mean horrible, Hachuli type calls. Owens outright fumbled but they called forward progress, no whistle blew, but hey. Then the BS pass interference was incidental contact, then next play Landri gets held BIG TIME, and nothing. The refs did screw the boys today, but alas they gave it away too. With all the chances they had at picks, no excuse for it. All in all, a work in progress, but the Panthers gave the game away. The play calling, while not good, wasn't too bad. They atleast didn't give away plays but personnel. Jeff King caught passes and stayed in for passing plays, don't recall hardly see Rosario.
Main Points......right side of O-line is trash, revolving door. Clausen far from there, but showing good indications of great QB to come. He just needs to learn the pro game and get the speed down. Running game....see O-line and Gross and Wharton need to man up and rule that left side like they once did, Fiametta needs to learn his blocking assignments as well. The defense will revolve around linebackers, they are good and solid. The ends can't get a rush, too slow or undersized, either way there is no rush. The secondary, well the nickel back is better than our starting corners, which might be why he took Marshall's place in normal package during game. Honestly the play of the day goes to the kids in Pop Warner during halftime. Little quarterback through a 20 yard strike to receiver who jumped, turned to quarterback in the air and pulled down a hell of a catch. I know you saw it Jaxon, explain it better for me. He is better than our receivers, sign him up. To all a good day......one extra bit, anyone regret them not signing Vick after he said he really really wanted to play here?
