I'll be honest. I'm about as giddy knowing Jimmy Clausen is getting a chance to start this weekend as I was when he fell to us in the second round back in April. I really think he will do alright in his professional debut as a starter. He doesn't have the pressure of being hooked if he doesn't make certain plays given that Matt Moore is benched and Tony Pike isn't ready yet. Do I think we'll get a win this week? My allegiance to the Panthers says yes but my football pick 'em prowess says no. In the end our fate will lie in the hands of our running game getting started and our defense making plays. Seriously, can the D-line provide a sack? So far I feel like they were teasing us during the preseason. I concur with the wide range specualation that Stewart is hurt since he's not performing at the same level or been given the usual amount of playing time we're accustomed to seeing him get. All this week I've been reading about the lack of WR options opposite of Steve Smith. I know Carolina won't try to make a pitch for Vincent Jackson given his issues but if we falter and end up with a record that gives us a top five pick I have to think they take a look at Georgia's AJ Green (this is purely speculation and too early to seriously consider). Bottom line: we need another quality receiver to compliment Smith. It's pretty bad when the third string RB (Mike Goodson) has the second most receiving yards for the team. I doubt seriously we'll beat the Bengals the way we did the last time they rolled into Charlotte but it will be interesting to see how the secondary covers Ochocinco and T.O. Whatever the outcome, I'll be watching the Panthers and rockin' out my Clausen jersey this upcoming Sunday.
