Dear Panthers Front Office,
I am a die hard Panthers fan. I watched EVERY SINGLE game of the 1-15 season. I watched Delhomme put on a classic interception clinic last season, and witnessed unparalleled stubbornness by the decision makers to only pull Jake when it was far too late. I realized that, in all reality, you didn’t actually pull Jakers, but was forced to pull him after he broke his finger. In any event, here comes Matt Moore.
Moore. The savior. The always popular “backup QB behind the struggling starter.” Well, Panthers FO, I realized something today. Moore thrives on “No pressure on US.” Testaverde isn’t quite the 40 year old that Favre is, and Carr still has Vietnam like flashbacks of his porous offensive line at Houston? “GREAT,” says Moore. I’ll come in and flourish. Oh, Jake continuously tries to overcompensate for the Arizona playoff meltdown, and puts up a nice 8-18 touchdown ratio in the process, effectively driving us OUT of the playoffs? "No biggie, I’ll come in and crush the hopes of OTHER teams gunning for the playoffs, because the pressure is on THEM.
Wait, what? New season, you say? I’M the starter, you say? New season, and all eyes on me, you say?"
Two games later, we’re sporting a shiny goose egg, due largely (not entirely, but still) to Matthew Erickson Moore. Kind sirs, IT IS TIME FOR JIMMY CLAUSEN.
Please, PLEASE don’t force me to suffer through a handful of more games when you try to say that Moore “gives us the best chance to win” with a straight face. Matt is a backup. A career backup at that (check his history). Clausen is starter. A career starter at that (check his history).
Just one diehard Panther fan’s $0.02.
