Quietly a good preseason for the Panther defense, particularly Hardy and Brown. Are you, like me, a little surprised? If Moore or Clausen turns out decent, is this a playoff team?
Gary Horton (4:14 PM)
No, I think they're far from a playoff team. Although I think they will play hard and play physical, I don't think they can mount a serious pass rush consistently in 2010. That exposes the back end that is not an elite cover unit, though they're not bad. The whole key for this football team will be to run the ball, eat up the clock, not ask their defense to be on the field the whole time and hope their QBs don't make mistakes. You're not going to see a lot of exciting plays and probably more than any other team in the NFL, this team needs to play mistake free football on both sides to have a chance to win.

Another Doubter
“far from a playoff team” – barring an epically bad year, can a team really be far from a playoff team. Even if you play .500 ball you have a chance some years. Guess he thinks the panthers will be a 5 or 6 win team?
“can’t mount a serious pass rush” – I realize it’s preseason, but come on man. You could at least say, “I’ve been impressed with their pass rush. The key will be to sustain it.”
Essentially, he says, “No Clay. The Panthers suck. They suck really bad. Their defense sucks and even if part of it doesn’t suck the rest of the sucky players will still suck. Oh, and the offense sucks worse. Their only saving grace is two unsucky running backs, but their two sucky QBs are going to screw that up too. You have no hope. Don’t even watch.”
Sorry for the rant. It’s early and for some reason his answer struck me wrong.
"I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious."
Just to clarify
I wasn’t the one asking the question, just ran across it.

A "scout," you say?
I don’t think they can mount a serious pass rush consistently in 2010.
I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone who has actually watched our defense this preseason could make that kind of comment with a clear conscious and/or a sound mind.
He's basically just another blogger, is he not?
It’d be like asking one of us what we thought of the Chief’s chances this year.
Good analogy
I have terrible tunnel vision when it comes to the Panthers and the NFL. Other than Matt Cassell, I don’t think I could name a single other player for Kansas City. And I really only know him because he started for the Patriots the year Brady was injured!
