What are the odds that the Carolina Panthers will win the Super Bowl this season? (Here's a hint: a $100 bet would pay out as much as $10,000 in profit if the Panthers won). I used the data at the odds section of FoxSports.com (which can be found here). I entered all the odds into a spreadsheet to see what conclusions can be drawn from Vegas odds-makers. The betting sites used are SBGGLOBAL.com, Sportsbook.com, SPORTSBETTING.com and bodog.com. I used the "futures" figures.
Futures – wagers made in predicting an event in the future like next year's Super Bowl. Oddsmakers produce lines during the year, depending on the strength or weakness of teams, then offer wagers on each team to win. For example, a league's top team may be +150 to win the championship. That means a $100 wager would pay $150 profit. However, a poor team might be +3000, indicating they are not expected to win and a $100 would pay $3,000 as a huge longshot.

So I listed each team with the odds from each site and then averaged them and ranked them by average. Here's how all the teams stacked up:

| Detroit Lions | 12500 | 10000 | 12500 | 9000 | 11000 | 32 |
The 2800 that is highlighted for the Titans was entered as 32,800 on the site which I believed to be a typo so I replaced it with 2800.
The average of all the rankings for all the teams is $4458.
What do you think about the results? Any teams surprise you? Does it make you want to run right out and bet on the Panthers?
PS: I posted this up earlier but misrepresented what the numbers meant by accident. (Pointed out by user: biakutukafan). Everything is corrected now. Thanks.
