Panthers Front Office - Down the Stretch
Earlier today, I read a post over at Arrowhead Pride. I decided to write a similar post on our Panthers.
The Independence Day holiday is behind us. It's time for the Panthers to continue trying to get rookie deals inked before the start of training camp. Panthers camp starts July 28th, so that leaves a little over three weeks. The Panthers have done an outstanding job this year of getting their rookies signed early. With the signing of Eric Norwood on June 23, the Panthers have 7 of 10 rookies in the bag.
That leaves just three: Armanti Edwards, Brandon LaFell and Jimmy Clausen.
The first two are almost certain to be signed before camp starts in the Sahara heat of Spartanburg, SC. As discussed previously, the tougher deal will be Jimmy Clausen. Let's hope the Panthers and Clausen's agent, Gary Wichard, can get it done and get him into camp on time.

It happens sometimes
Beason and J-Stew took alittle longer to get in camp on time and get their deals inked. Sometimes it goes down to the wire but Clausen will sign and be in camp on time I have a feeling. Edwards and LaFell I am not worried about at all more than likely this is just one of those things that takes a while for both sides to come together.
Still with fellas like Clausen, and other higher picks (1-10) that is one of the major factors into next years lockout looming. These rookies are commanding to much money out of the gate. Sorry but nobody is worth $100 million dollars, I mean money in prosports in way out of control and league commisoners and owners have let it get that way.
I say if the players wanna strike bring in the replacement players I will go to the games regardless.
Go Panthers.

I get the impression this is one of the bigger sticking points.
The owners have to be looking for a rookie salary cap. I think this is one of those issues where the NFLPA will have to budge first to avoid the lockout.
Man, you are dang straight. Bring in the CFL players. I don’t care if they’re a step down from pro players. I watch college football, don’t I? I’ll watch some NFL rejects play, as long as they’re playing for my team.
stuff 'bout stuff.

Maybe it's a huge sticking point...the problem is....
I suspect everyone agrees on the rookie salary cap. However, where will that excess money end up is the problem. Players want it to be dispersed among the veterans. Owners probably want to keep it. We’ll see where it ends up. My money is on the owners.
I know opionions are like...
but I think keeping the overall cap the same, lowering the rookie pool and raising the veteran pool is the “fair” thing to do for everyone considered. Just my $0.02. You may be right on the owners though. They usually do hold most of the leverage.
