Carolina Panthers Training Camp: Day 1
Good morning Panther nation! I'm getting ready to head out the door for the 9 am practice. If all goes according to plan I will also be at the evening practice. I will use this thread to post updates through the session if I'm able. I believe my 3 year old will be with me today so I may not have much time to observe and comment.
Also I''m taking a camera and will be posting pictures later as well.

Awesome to have some eyes on the ground LK
Gantt is tweeting the QBs are lined up as: Moore, Cantwell, Clausen, Pike.
I suspect this is mostly due to knowledge of the playbook. I’m really interested in how Pickles and Buck (Clausen and LaFell) look in the early session.

whos our starting front 4 right now?
with lenard out it should be interesting. plus ive it sounded like brown wasnt going to be a starter
according to the observer
suttun looks good in 7-on-7 drills. Jamar williams when under the trainers tent with hamstring problems and jeff king is a leader. who would of guessed that
Getting some tweets from Darin Gantt:
-LB Jon Beason getting used to playing in space, batting down a Moore pass. Probably should have caught it, but hey.
-First one in the trainer’s tent: LB Jamar Williams. Hamstring maybe, too soon to tell
-WRs and DBs are doing their thing elsewhere, but the action is in 7-on-7 run drills. RB Sutton looks good, and as expected, there are DL ?s
-WR Dwayne Jarrett runs wrong route, looks confused as ball flies away. Not a good first-day impression.
-Kenny Moore, on the other hand, appears serious about the chance he’s getting. Was singled out for praise earlier during a blocking drill.
-Now Dwayne’s limping around like he’s got a hammy. Great first day Jarrett, really nice.
-Tent’s staring to fill up. DE Johnson now over with trainers. Not sure what’s wrong.
-Now they’re looking at rookie LB Norwood under the tent.
Not the most encouraging stuff…

hunter cantwell
If the team is so hight on cantwell like most people are saying then why did we draft clausen with our first pick?? Dont get me wrong I liked the pick but it seems as though we could have filled more pressing needs like DT or WR first (Golden Tate for example or Terrance Cody yeah i know his work ethic is pathetic) I’m just saying whats the point of having 3 maybe starting caliber qbs on the roster? trade bait? i hope so. knowing the Panthers, not possible. If it was clearer that the team was this high on cantwell earlier i would have been fine with not drafting clausen and having a steve smith and golden tate combo or a terrance cody to help out at DT but everyone made it seem like we absolutely had to pick a qb w/ our first pick and now the person we pick isnt even 2nd behind the depth chart. I would preferably have our first pick make an immediate impact not siting 3rd string waiting for and injury to take place
by Martin LatinFire Gonzalez on Jul 29, 2010 10:43 AM EDT reply actions
Cantwell isn't Clausen... not even close
He’s getting the reps now because of the playbook, not because they think he’s a long term answer.

by James Dator on Jul 29, 2010 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions
The Panthers being high on a guy like Cantwell is the reason our QB play has sucked for the majority of the franchises' history.
Clausen is a blue chip prospect, he’s EXACTLY what we’ve been missing at the position.
"You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig."
I still think the pumping up of Cantwell
is to trade him for a pick next year. With Moore, Clausen and Pike there is simply no room unless he looks like the next coming of John Elway this camp.
Not saying it won't happen
But assuming we lose either Moore or Mr. Pickles, why trade your only legit backup?
'Cause that's the cool thing to do.

No worries. It's just early camp rust (I hope).

If Cleveland fans are lucky, they’ll see “that” Jake show up for them this year.

34 yr old Jake will show up enough to keep them from getting to .500.

why would it need to be treated

Well each a time a bee stings you it injects venom through it's stinger.
Get stung enough and it’s as bad as a snake or spider bite. And if you’re allergic, it’s really bad. IDK, my parents are vets, but I’m not really a medical person. I personally have an extreme dislike of stinging insects of any kind, and can sympathize with Mr. Ware,

by Flowing Willow on Jul 29, 2010 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions
If you’re not allergic you can just take some tweezers and grab it as close to the skin as possible and pull it out. If you pull it out with your fingers you’re just squirting all that venom into yourself. The barb has a sack at the end that holds the venom and pumps it into you over a period of time.
What I heard was it takes 10 stings per pound of body weight to kill. So, if you weigh 130, it would take 1300 stings. I don’t know what other health complications can occur with fewer, but still numerous, stings. I know a copperhead won’t kill you, but it’ll make you wish you were dead.

and perhaps Morty Ivy
I think Sean Ware and Quniton Culbertson are the cuts.

If were gonna put all the great STers on the roster..
we may have to consider cutting starters! There are an awful lot of ST standouts with the Panthers right now. And since they are so loaded at other positions I can’t see them taking any more than 6/7 linebackers.

Uh, I think the 6 guys listed above are locks
and Ivy, Culberson, and Ware may be fighting for one spot/PS.

gettin ahead of myself I know and talking about another player not on the Panthers but……can you imagine a Pro Bowl (if the players actually played hard) with Beason at WLB and P. Willis in the middle, both of them on the field at the same time would be awesome

Steve Reed had this to say:
Moore is looking like a leader out there. He’s talking to guys, encouraging them and really taking this team under his wing. He really seems comfortable and is taking on the leadership role with Jake Delhomme now gone. Moore did throw one bad pass and was picked by Chris Gamble, but other than that he looked very sharp.
Also notable:
QBs Jimmy Clausen and Hunter Cantwell split reps with the second team at quarterback during the morning session. Expect to see a lot of that as camp wears on. My guess is that in the end Clausen will be the No. 2 quarterback. They certainly paid him like one.

I like that they look really fast
They are going to need to compensate any lack of experience with energy and speed.
I’m starting to get the impression that this season could wind up with Smitty and LaFell starting and Edwards primarily only on STs. I know it’s just one practice, but I have my doubts about Jarrett’s brain and Edwards learning curve… combine that with LaFell looking strong, and there you go.

If Jarrett doesn't win a starting job...
I bet they part ways and give that spot to Moore or Martin. Someone will give the Panthers a 6th or 7th for Jarrett
I doubt that anyone would gave up a draft pick
considering that he has done nothing in 3 years. I know I wouldn’t

However, I think Jarrett would fit in well with a spread offense. Our vertical passing game is not his cup of tea.

We still need an X on third and medium to move the chains.
It’s the first day of camp, once Jarret gets over the rust he should be fine. However if he doesn’t show up this camp/preseason, I’m thinking he’s cut.
Ready for 2010 football already!!!

Maybe somebody whose thin at the position?
Give up a 7th and take a chance on a guy who a few still think could be a big contributor.

Do not ask DWill
about this video. Even as a wrestling fan he is not interested. He will snub your ass. I learned this the hard way. Kinda sucks as a DWill homer.
Trent Guy was super nice and happy to sign autographs. Good luck to that dude.

How about we evaluate his training camp/preseason, as a whole. Hmm?

It's not one practice
It’s one practice and 3 crappy seasons. The guy has to be on a short leash at this point. Little room left for error.

Just watched Clausen interview. Guy sounds like a NFL Quarterback. He oozes confidence. I like Moore and he has done well in the short time given to him but i can tell its going to be hard to keep Clausen back.

Moore is in the drivers seat
If Claussen ever starts as a Panther, it will be because Moore is injured or isn’t that good.

Hey..
Have you guys heard anything about this kid Ray Hisatake? I haven’t heard his name before and I found an article on him. He’s an OL from the U of Hawaii…the article says they are already calling him “Kemo”..haha…I was just wondering cause I didn’t remember seeing anything else on him..
In Moore we trust!!!
A while back I tried to find blogs on this site for all the colleges of the rookies who we knew little about so I could ask them what their thoughts were. Hawaii wasn’t on here. I’ve been curious about him myself. I’m sure you could find some pre-draft analysis of him if you wanted. I’m sure I read one at one time, but I don’t recall what it said.
stuff 'bout stuff.
