Mike Goodson or Tyrell Sutton?
This is one of the biggest battles going into camp this year. On one hand, we have Mike Goodson. He has the advantage of being one of the Panthers draft picks, and a rather high one as a 4th rounder. A Heisman candidate at one point, and a fast back registering a 4.54 time in the NFL Draft. However, in the Panthers preseason and regular season games he has also displayed a tendency to fumble, and his skillset has not seemed to have transferred to the next level of talent in the NFL. He was one of the biggest disappointments in special teams last year on punt/kick returns, making the fans cringe every time he touches the ball. A lot of talent here to call on if Diangelo Williams or Stewart were to one day leave us, but can he produce?
Cheers to the guy in the side-thread who linked it recently.
On the other hand, Tyrell Sutton has a twitter account here and he has just recently told Bmitch8042 to “stop that BS!“ Yup, that pansy just got called out. He also played wonderfully as a undersized fullback when the Hoov and Fiametta went down, and he pulled off possibly one of the best efforts a backup could ever put up in the wake of a fallen veteran. He's also currently penciled in as a kickoff returner, securing himself a place on special teams if not anything else.
Should we even care? If Mike Goodson gets in as the #3 RB and Tyrell Sutton gets in as one of the kickoff return specialists, there is a good chance that they could both be on our team.
Thoughts? Comments? Which one of these guys will win the #3 RB job and which one hits the curb if we can only keep one?

Sutton
I love his versatility. He can fill in a FB in a pinch, which would allow us to free a roster spot and carry only one FB. Decent return man, pretty quick. And the few carries he had against the Bucs last year really impressed me.
Goodson just seemed kind of “blah” all of last year.
+1 for Matt Moore
Last year we had Sutton, Goodson, Double Trouble, and two fullbacks...
I can’t imagine either of these guys not making the roster unless they just stink it up in camp. I like both of them as change of pace backs (plus, I just have to see Goodson with Armanti in the wildcat, just once.)
Where there’s a will… I want to be in it.
Think they both make the roster
but I really like what Sutton brings to the table. Goodson has tons of potential, but until that potential starts to show, think Sutton is the better back and role player.
Take the world as it is, not as it ought to be.
Sutton is better, the end.
That was a fun debate. Jk. Naw, seriously though, I think they’ll keep 4 HBs. It’s the driving force of the offense, and both Williams and Stewart have had injury problems. They’ll stack up at the position like always.
I’m actually real interested in seeing what Josh Vaughan can do though. No one is even talking about him. The dude is almost the size of Jonathan Stewart and still runs in the high 4.5s to low 4.6s. Stewart is bigger and faster, but maybe Vaughan can be a poor mans Stewart. He’s had a year in the league. Maybe he’s adjusted and can put it all together. You never know.
stuff 'bout stuff.
If I had to choose, I'd pick Sutton. Next Nick Goings.
But I think we end up keeping all four. Unless Goodson seriously regresses.

Sutton better resembles what DWill and JStew can do
So he would be the better #3…just for continuity in the run-game.
Goodson is a different cat. I don’t see why he couldn’t get some time as a third down/receiving back…put him in during obvious passing downs as a threat to take a short pass for a first down.

They both have twitter accounts.
Here is Goodson’s:

I am shallow. I hope they both make the team based on the fact that there are so few Panthers players on Twitter. =)
Oh I saw that! You're right!
I didn’t mention it though because it doesn’t look like he uses it much. When I posted this post though, Sutton had called out that guy nearly 10 minutes ago, so it gave me a good laugh.
Stewart has a Twitter account too, and I’m sure I could find Deangelo if I looked hard enough.

Can you imagine the comedy that would come from 140 character thoughts by Smitty?

Smith is too manly to tweet.
