I was reading over at Carolina Growl another review of the Panthers positions/depth chart/NFL rankings. While the review was fairly vanilla, it was interesting to get another fan's perspective on how the Panthers stack up and who he thought would win the many position battles. Some of the picks are not exactly exciting, e.g. picking MacBern for RG instead of the "Duke." In addition to these roster picks, there is also a breakdown of where a particular position ranks against the NFL. It doesn't say why the rankings are given but my thoughts after the jump...
The rankings are fair but don't take into account the talent we have. It seems like the rankings are based on proven numbers. With this in mind, we were ranked 29th out of 32 teams at the QB position. This is probably because we have a cumulative 8 starts at our QB position. But if you consider that we have one QB that played PHENOMENAL when given the chance last. Then you consider a top ten draft pick QB and a top 4 QB (prior to the combine) as rookies. Last we have a Hunter on our team who the team is "really high on." This kind of talent is certainly better than the Browns, Bills, Seahawks, Jaguars, Vikings (given this is Farve's last year), Lions, and many other teams. This idea is repeated in all the rankings, so there is not much appreciation for Carolina's chances this year.
