It amazes me that he would even be considered to miss out on a ticket to Canton. Since the Panthers drafted him in 2001, he's been a BRILLIANT player on special teams and later as our #1 Wide Receiver. In my opinion, I don't think Pat Kirwan is talking about the same Steve Smith that we Panther fans see every year. We're talking about a 3-time All Pro selection and a 4-time Pro Bowler who is one of only seven players in NFL history to acheive the "Triple Crown". We're talking about the Steve Smith who has five 1000 yd seasons(and could have had a sixth if not for inconsistent QB play in 2009). What's so funny to me is that for all the accolades that he's received, and for him to be considered one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game that he isn't considered to at least be on the path to Canton. I also find the notion that Terrel Owens is on the path to the Hall of Fame ridiculous! As good as he's been over his career i just don't believe someone with his character should be awarded this prestigious honor....but that's a completely different story and i don't want to get too off topic....
Hey Guys, just finished reading an article on NFL.com from Pat Kirwan. NFL Hall of Fame And in his article he lists all the active NFL players that are shoe-ins for the Hall of Fame, players that are on the path, players that haven't quite broken out but do have the potential if they have stellar play for the rest of their careers, and some players that just don't quite have it and are going to miss out. To my astonishment, Steve Smith was included in the list of the players that are going to miss out.
My rant aside, how does the rest of the Panther nation feel about this? Do you believe that Steve Smith at least deserves consideration for the Hall or do you feel that he hasn't done enough to be considered. Whatever your opinions may be let me know what the rest of you think my Panther brethren!!!
