Official New Panthers Number Thread
Jimmy Clausen has selected the #2 to be wore on his NFL jersey that may go down in history of the Carolina Panthers. Maybe he can be the best #2 in the NFC South this season over Matt Ryan. I have not seen any other numbers chosen by players drafted. Fill this in anyway you can when players select the numbers. I'm thinking about buying this jersey right now.

Per Panthers Official Site...
Clausen – #2
Edwards – #10
Lafell – #11
Gettis – #12
Pike – #16
Hardy- #76
Norwood- #92
Thanks to the Denver Broncos, my sanity (what's left of it, at least) will remain intact for 2010.
They need to scrape Cantwell so Edwards can have 14

damn, harsh. but funny and true at the same time.
get the hell out hunter, you are obsolete.

Apparently, Furney like Cantwell.
He’s not necessarily the odd man out of our QB battle until he gets beaten on field, which I find pretty interesting (considering I like him, which must mean he’s going to forever suck)
Overall Panthers Draft Grade: A
I just hope the #2 isn't indicative of how Clausen will play...

I'll take the #2 QB in the NFL :D

True, but I meant it the bad way, lol
I hope he doesn’t play like sh*t

I'm surprised by some of these
- No.2 for Clausen indicates that he wont petition, nor pay for Jason Baker’s no.7… this is a good sign that he might be maturing
- LaFell: I thought they only allowed WRs to have low numbers in very special situations. I wonder why they allowed him to have 11?
- Gettis: Same as above
- Norwood: Typically linebackers are given numbers in the 40s and 50s… strange to see him so high

They changed the rules re the WR's numbers
It used to be for special situations only, but they changed it a few years ago.
I’m surprised that Norwood went with a number in the 90’s as well – those are usually for DL instead of LB – maybe there’s a mistake on the website or he’s going to play DE more than LB?

I hope he plays SLB
I wanna see him make plays, he has me so excited. Apparently he has trouble in coverage though which is somewhat a cuase for concern. Makes me think he’ll play DE on 3rd downs.

I think this is the breakdown
1-9 QB, P, K
10-19 QB, P, K, WR
20-29 RB, DB
30-39 RB, DB
40-49 RB, DB, TE
50-59 OL, LB
60-69 OL, DL
70-79 OL, DL
80-89 WR, TE
90-99 DL, LB

That looks to be correct...
I was unaware that LB’s could have numbers in the 90’s – since none of ours do I just never paid that much attention to it.

It was a rule change this year because of all the DEs & OLBs switching from 4-3 to 3-4 and vice versa
The draft is over. Time to focus on making this team AWESOME!
This year?
Kevin Greene wore #91 for us back when.
But he was most likely listed as a DE...
And of course the NFL let some things slide. Jason Taylor wore 99 last year for the Dolphins even though he was an OLB. They just made it “official” this season.

Basically correct.
1-9 Quarterbacks and Kickers
10-19 Quarterbacks, Receivers, Tight Ends, and Kickers
20-49 Running Backs and Defensive Backs
50-59 Centers and Linebackers
60-79 Defensive Linemen and Offensive Linemen
80-89 Receivers and Tight Ends (or 40-49 if those ranges are taken)
90-99 Defensive Linemen and Linebackers

I believe
he wore #1 in college, I’m guessing that had something to do with the selection

I like #2 for Clausen if he keeps it, and if it's a reminder of where he was drafted.
Receivers getting numbers in the teens irritates me, so does Linebackers getting picks numbers in the 90s (I can understand it in a 3-4 system, but we don’t play that.)
He steps to the left, he steps to the riiiiiiight. That Amos Roberts, he'll make you look shite!
Armanti taking #10 makes sense however
Since we are talking about a hybrid WR/QB here. There are times he will be under center. I am pretty certain of that.
Definitely a problem with Norwoods #...
It’s 2 digits too high. hahaha

Panthers site also said..
That the equipment manager sits on the numbers of certain players for a while. So we most likely won’t be seeing any 17’s or 90’s anytime soon, I don’t think… Unfortunate because I want someone to get 90 and replace what’s-his-face.
I wouldn’t. That number is indicative of laziness. Should be retired for the sake of letting no one else get pepperitis.

Give it Hardy. He's the new Peppers after all. =P

I like to think of #92 Eric Norwood to imply
90+2 or 90 part 2.

Clausen chose 2 because Matt Moore wears 3
He already thinks he’s 1 better than Matt.
LOL, man I crack myself up.

Why wouldn't he choose 6?
Then he could look like he’s twice as good as Moore?
or 9, then he could be Moore squared?

I was hoping for 9 myself

Heck he could choose #1.
This entire offseason, I've been defending Clausen from critics. Now I got an even better reason to.
No homo?

Looks like he is preparing for his inevitable endorsement deal with Armani
I mean… its to easy.
Armani… Armanti.
In fact… I used to get a cheap laugh whenever Armanti would hand the ball off to someone by calling it “The Armanti Exchange”
At first glance, I thought that was D-Will. Two kinda look alike.
