This signing has kinda slipped under radar, but when I saw a report that Brian Witherspoon was clocked at 4.16 (yeah, 4.16), I had to do a double-take and check out the youtube. Now, I don't know if he's really that fast, but he is rated in the top 6 of the fastest players in the league.
So what? He's fast. Then I started thinking about the strong emphasis our Panthers are putting on special teams this off-season (hell, it's the only emphasis). New coach, players with excellent ST experience signed, new KOS. Now, an experienced KR with this kind of speed added to the mix. I think maybe, just maybe, we actually see a ST touchdown or two this year, and I mean for us, not against us. And we're bound to be better at ST coverage as well. Other than Jake's problems, special teams hurt us more than anything else last year. So for those who think the Panthers are tanking it this off-season, I give you the new and improved Panthers' Special Teams. What does that mean?? Field position -- how big is that? Anybody else think this is a big deal?
