Greg Ellis to Carolina?
What do you guys think?
He missed two games last season with the Raiders but still got 25 solo tackles, 7 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. He's nearing the end of his career @ 34yrs old but he's still got some juice in the tank. I think he could give us some good situational play and help mentor some of the young bloods. We should be able to get him at a reasonable price and he's at least as good as any DE currently on our roster. I do, however, believe that Brown is a freak and will break out big for us this season. For the record, our DE's had the following stats from last season. Of course, Peppers and Brayton are no longer with us (UPDATE Brayton Re-signed Horay!!!). I look forward to your input.
Peppers- 36 solo tackles, 10.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles (2 INT's- 1 TD)
Brayton- 37 solo tackles, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles
Johnson- 17 solo tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles
Brown- 15 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles

too old
He is older than 30. So don’t hold your breath.
Not necessarily
They just don’t want expensive older players. If they can get him cheap on say a 1 year (maybe 2) deal, they might do it.
I think I heard they have a contract offer out to Brayton, if he doesn’t sign anywhere else he may come back.
You're right...
They do have an offer out to Brayton. Last I heard, he was going to visit Seattle. I hope he decides to come back to Carolina.

True but...
as it stands, we only have two DE’s on the roster that have ever contributed on game day. I watched H. Taylor @ UNC and I don’t believe that he has the skills to be a starter at the NFL level. Ellis is a North Carolina guy, he’s still got some game, and we need some depth at the position. I think he would be worth looking into.
He's a talent upgrade... I'm all for it.

Two year deal, at the most.
He’s a wonderful player. But we don’t know when he’s going to hit that old person wall. This is a veteran with talent. Bring him in!

+1
HIm and a mid round guy like Middleton or Cunningham and we are set for the year.
Jake Delhomme, QB Carolina Panthers, 2003-2009.
120 TDs+16000+ passing yards=Good
89 INT's+27 lost fumbles=Bad
Most comeback wins since 2003=Priceless

I wouldn't mind seeing us sign Ellis
he should have something left in the tank. Also, I believe he’s matured since his days with the Cowboys and should not be a distraction.

Only as a pass rusher
My other team is the Raiders, so I can pretty much tell you at this point in Ellis’s career, he is purely a pass rusher. The Raiders had the worst run defense this year, and he was a big part of that, simply could not hold up at the point of attack whenever teams ran to his side of the field. So if they sign him it’s gotta be real cheap, cause he’s only gonna be able to play a few snaps a game. He was however a model citizen in Oakland, or at least seemed like it when compared to our fat ass / drunk ass of a QB.
GO SPURS GO!
5 IN '10!
He's always been a pure pass rusher
LOL on your QB comment!!! As a Tar Heel fan, I’ve followed him since we recruited him out of high school where he played both DE and TE. He left for the NFL as our all time sack leader…..ahead of Lawrence Taylor! I really hope Hurney and Fox take a look at him.
