Panthers add Kemoeatu to cut list

Lord so much is happening!!
I can’t decide on what to write about next? The owners cutting their mistakes? The players we cut? The cuts that still might coiome? The impact on the draft…on my recent Team Needs list. Any Panther mock drafts will need to be updated…
Busy weekend for sure so check back

Yeah, your 9:30 post was irrelevant within three hours...
This has been a shocking collection of moves by the team. I just don’t remember a time when six of the guys we had penciled in as starters going into one season were gone in the time it takes to watch a movie, including the entire D line and the quarterback. What a massive change to the roster these last few hours have created.
Good luck trying to figure out what to write about, Jax. It’s been a quiet week, but you’ve got a wealth of options, now. Here’s another one: the transformation of the public perception of Carl Carey from bumbling, inexperienced and overly talkative into a Tom Hagen-style specialist.

Make that seven starters.
… since we’re adding Diggs to the list.

...
i feel like we just threw in the towel and are going in to rebuilding mode…kemo isn’t a surprise, and i wasn’t opposed to jake, but Lewis cut?? marshall only given a 2nd rounder? WTF IS GOING ON??!?!?!?!?
Business decisions
this is about the uncapped season and pending CBA talks. The owners were certainly going to afford themselves of the opportunity to cut bait on their big $ vets. Besides, we haven’t lost anyone we can’t replace with someone already on the roster.
I’m not so sure Leonard and Tyler up front can’t match a Kemo/Lewis front. Besides we can always bring back Hollis Thomas as a back-up if needed.

Yeah, I’d take Leonard and Tyler over Kemo/Lewis. Younger, higher ceiling, better fit to Meeks system. Plus we’ll have Hayden and Irving and Johnson to back them up. We had WAY too many DT’s as it was.
Why this fuss over Lewis?
The guy was better as a backup. Fox wants a strong line, not one where your best lineman is average.

I'm not accustomed to this...
The Panthers are usually conservative and sit tight. This is pretty surprising to me. The defense is all about speed now and I am guessing they are saving cash and making adjustments to accommodate the defense.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Panthers make some moves to build depth but who knows now?
They did this to the o-line in 2008
Because it didn’t have the big power guys they wanted… And went on to a 12-4 record. They are obviously doing the same to the d-line. Maybe rebuilding to fit Meeks? This is a good thing.

Depth is coming _ DE's free agent signings highly unlikely in Charlotte this offseason.
All the cuts don’t surprise me at all and at last Fox and Hurney are in contract years themselves and have realize that it is time to make some major changes it is not 2003 nor is it 2006 and this Panthers team needs a major facelift and or change and we are going to get it this offseason. Will it come via free agency hmmm maybe but we are not going to get into a bidding war for any players and with the market so small on DE’s I don’t think we are going to sign any of name value now.
According to ESPN this morning, Peppers seems like a lock to become a Bear, Kampman is going to meet with the Seahawks, and lastly K. Vadenbosch is going to meet with the Lions ??? The Lions plz…. but I would rather have Brayton back than Vadenbosch anyway and he would cost less.
For this post sake man what a overhaul, speed, speed, and more speed is what we are looking for out of our DT’ and Kemo/Lewis where older vet’s that needed to go from a economic standpoint and a production standpoint I mean half a sack for D-Lew sorry bud but you have to go epsecially with your contract you had remaining.
I would love to see us make a play for A. Byrant this offseason and their hasn’t been to much buzz on him yet either. He always plays great at BOA Stadium and we could then draft a DE high as well as a Mardy Gilyard to play in the Slot/Returner or Jacboy Ford or A. Roberts.
Man this season is going to be fun for us Panther Nation, a change and new faces at last.

+1...no big signings for the Panthers
they believe they have a very strong core of young players that will be competitive this season without any big names coming on board (and I agree). I believe its all about the draft for now and then we might scrap the bottom of the FA barrel later to try and find some value.
Fox’s job may be up in the air right now but Marty Hurney is going nowhere. He’s working overtime right now…

One caveat...
I now also believe we won’t be signing a big FA defensive end. However, I think it would be in the Panther’s best interest to try and acquire Anquan Boldin. We won’t have to worry about another draft pick bust at WR and we’d finally have a legitimate threat at the 2nd WR position that would finally draw coverage away from Steve Smith. I honestly think that that move would improve the team more than any other we could make during the offseason. Not only that, but it would create huge fan interest and a large morale boost among fans who are looking for assurance that we will be contender next year and won’t be in penny pinching mode.
Well...
The Boldin theory has potential now. I heard they were only looking for a 3rd round pick (heard quickly so I’m not positive and it’s only rumor). And now, there is extra money with the releases.
True Jaxon but ~
I agreed with you Jaxon that the D-men are set but the offense needs another reciever and why not get A. Byrant I mean we need a posession reciever that is still in his prime and Bryant always plays well at BOA.
Fox maybe, and Hurney maybe as well I would go as bold as to say that Hurney is going nowhere regardless of CBA and possible strike year looming in 2011.
Hey nobody thought we were going to clean house either so don’t be suprise if a big signing comes to Charlotte everything we have done this offseason is completely the opposite of what we usually do in the offseason.
Signings will come .

Lewis and Kemo shouldn't be that surprising
They are both average DTs playing for a coach who wants to dominate the line. Kemo did little more than occupy space. Didn’t tackle well, couldn’t collapse the pocket. Lewis was brought in to be a backup, 3rd in rotation, and performed better in that role then as a starter.
Shed that weight, and now they can build the d-line how they want it. Probably no huge names, but a bunch of guys who fit the mold of what they are after. They did this to the o-line in 2008, analysts everywhere ripped them for it. But Fox/Hurney proved them wrong then, and I believe they can do it again!
