I went with Snead
since its too early for Zac Robinson. Snead has all the physical tools but will need a couple seasons to mature and learn the system.

I too went Snead.
Robinson is my backup pick.

+1
I went with Snead but McCoy could be considered here alos. After the 1st and 3rd tender being placed on Moore, I really don’t see QB being a concern in the 3rd round. In that case I would say look for Armanti Edwards (5-6th) or maybe Zac Robinson later in the draft. I think Edwards would bring a change of pace which could be good, put him in to run the wildcat vs. D. Will or J. Stew and give the added threat of a run/pass option from it.
A QB?
The only names I recognize on here are QBs, but I wouldn’t pick one. I firmly believe Moore is entrenched as our starter, so I’d pick a guy that may contribute over the next couple seasons. If Moore performs like I expect, then we won’t need another starter for the next decade. However, if he gets hurt or something, we do still have Delhomme, and Cantwell is as good as you need for a 3rd stringer.
Agree with you on all counts.
The very fact that the Panthers used the 1st and 3rd tender combo on Moore yesterday tells me they’re not looking for a QB in the draft, period.
But to play the game by the rules, I voted for LeFevour, and my backup pick would be Snead. For value’s sake, I’d take Edwards in a later round, though.
I think ultimately they’ll take a late rounder at the position… but I doubt they’ll go QB this early.

agreed
I with the 1st and 3rd on Moore im pretty sure its a safe bet he is gonna be starting next season. I think it would benefit us to take a DE here…

I'd be surprised if the Panthers went for a QB in the third round but...
…if they did, I think Snead is the best choice. He had a lot of hype coming into his last season but underperformed. I think he has the physical tools needed to be a good starting QB but will be a 2 year project. In fact, if he is available when we come up in the 3rd round, the Panthers may just snag him. I don’t see them doing that with any of the other QB’s mentioned.
Colt McCoy would be my second choice if Snead isn’t available. He’s a winner but doesn’t project as much in the pro game as Snead. I was initially pretty high on LeFevour but he was really underwhelming at the combine and I now think he may be just a product of the system.
But honestly, I think it’s much more likely that we use our 3rd on line depth, offensive or defensive.
On the board up there James
Jonathan Crompton, not Cropton… just in case anyone is trying to look him up.
Fail!
Sorry everyone, a typo on my part. Unfortunately I can’t go back and edit a poll… however Tater is correct if you’re trying to look him up.
Trust me that I can get LeFevour and Perrilloux right but mess up Crompton.

Voted for McCoy
I think if he is still hanging around in the 3rd round, that would be a slam dunk for best player available.
I am surprised that a couple people have thrown in votes for Armanti as a 3rd round selection. Trust me. I like Armanti a lot… but the 3rd round would be a fairly shocking selection.
I agree with you on Armanti…he’d be a late round flier at best. But honestly, I’d take him over Vick in a heart beat.
vs. vick
if he and vick had exactly the same skills, vick is still older and will cost a lot more. does edwards have the speed to play a slot or old-school kordell stewart slash position? maybe he and moore can be on the field at the same time – moore pitches to edwards who runs or throws…
Edwards did not run at the combine
Something about a sore hammy, but will run on his pro day. Accroding to his journal he pulled it a little bit while working on his cuts should someone decide to take a look at him as a WR.
Last time he was clocked at App he ran in the 4.5 neighborhood in the 40.
The thing that makes Armanti look very fast is how well he speed translates while in full pads, and his excellent agility. There are times you think he is gonna be tackled, and he make an amazing move to spring free.
He ran a 4.36 after he was already drafted at a rookie minicamp
He apparently did not run at all at the Combine.
Either way, both times are absurdly fast for a QB.
Armanti has really climbed alot of draft boards.
He’s moving up the same way Pat White did, and they’re characterizing him as a wildcat QB.
I too think 3rd is early, but 4th or 5th is a definite possibility.

Mountaineer nation would be very excited
We’d be EXTREMELY excited if he somehow finds his way onto the Panthers. That means he will probably be throwing to Dexter Jackson in practice… bringing back plenty of nostalgia about the best moments of our lives as App Fans.
I don't get all the Armanti Edwards hype...
I know he’s from App State, and I know he’s a good QB, but I just don’t get the hype.
I’m not trying to start a debate, but I just don’t get it…
Draft Gilyard!
No problem
I won’t start a debate with you.. haha. Just take a look at some Youtube clips, you’ll see where it comes from. He has broken a lot of I-AA records, and the ones he has not broken he only sits behind Steve McNair. Has a ton of awards, a couple national championships, and extremely gaudy statistics.
At this point his role in the pros is not clear, but it is looking like he will get his shot. I want to see him in Panther Blue just because I can’t imagine having to cheer for anyone else.
People are going to want to change their picks after reading this
So being a born and bread in Carolina I know we have a natural facination for hype. Jeven is a SERIOUS project. McCoy is a little too frigile for my taste. and Lefevour is all hype all the time. Now Edwards is something we need. He’s got the same type of small school work ethic we have come to love in Matt Moore and Jake Delhomme. He’s a proven winner, the guys is home grown (GVille aka Greenville SC), tough as nails, and he is also cool as the other side of the pillow! But don’t take my word for it. Lets look @ his resume:
As a Freshman: Armanti Edwards led the Mountaineers to the FCS (formerly Division I-AA) National Championship in 2006, as a true freshman. He finished the 2006 with 2,251 yards and 15 touchdowns passing, and 1,153 yards and 15 touchdowns rushing
Sophmore: Edwards started the 2007 season by guiding Appalachian State to a 34–32 upset victory over fifth-ranked Michigan. He and the Mountaineers won a third consecutive national championship, beating the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens 49–21 on December 14.
Junior:Edwards was named the 2008 Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and was the winner of the 2008 Walter Payton Award, given to the top FCS offensive player.
Senior: There was none he graduated in 3.5 years with a 3.3 GPA. (Smarts can’t be questioned!)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armanti_Edwards
Check him out! I think a few people are going to want to change their vote after reading his article
He played a Senior Season
He graduated just after it ended actually, and put up huge numbers yet again. They lost in the Semi-final round of the PLAYOFFS (another reason I-AA ball should get more credit) but Edwards claimed his 2nd straight Walter Payton award.
I actually voted for Edwards but the Panthers won’t draft him. Edwards is too skilled at the QB position, he would create problems for defenses and Fox and Co. are too conservative for that type of athlete at QB.
"It's a bad day to have a bad day" - Coach John Fox of the Carolina Panthers
I went for Colt McCoy
His accuracy, smarts, leadership/intangibles, experience are all top notch and the main areas scouts look for in a QB. He also has good athletism for roll-outs and scrambling for 1st downs every now and then. In our ball control, running game offense we need an efficient, accurate, smart leader at QB.
This is all stated with the assumption that his shoulder is alright. It has been reported that Dr Andrews (gold standard dr/surgen) is not concerned with his recovery.
Lets keep in mind he started for a national power for 4 years. At 6’1" and 210 he is not tiny either.
Will Parker
size
thats actually pretty small for a QB…
by SouthernPanther on Mar 4, 2010 1:56 PM EST up reply actions
I'd go for Jevan Sneed.
He’s got everything you need to be a QB. Good arm. Nice size at 6,3. Smart and intelligent player, and he’s one of the QB’s that actually THREW at the combine. He’s a young guy, will probably benefit from hanging around Matt Moore.
They say that he has some problems with his confidence though, which I don’t necessarily believe right now. We better keep him away from Jake Delhomme though, otherwise they might join forces and create their own emo rock band.
Too soon?

hhahahahahaha
hahaha, I also voted Snead…love his size and he had a great year before his debacle this year…I think he can bounce back though…

Why is McCoy still on the board?
sorry if I missed out on something. Did he do something to hurt his stock lately? Just curious, because I thought someone who really hurt his stock was Tony Pike after the combine.
But if he’s still on the board, I’d take him in a heartbeat.
It's a strong class but weak on QB's
His injury history and his less than ideal size and arm strength will surpress a high draft pick. 2nd round could happen but 3rd more likely.
I blog the Carolina Panthers at www.catscratchreader.com
McCoy is hurt by a lot of different things:
- Slightly on the small side
- Coming off injury
- Less than ideal arm strength
- Worked out of a spread offense
Most analysts have him going anywhere from the 3rd to the 5th. The only mocks that show him going any higher was to Denver, where apparently Josh McDaniels loves the kid (and he knows a thing or two about QBs).

mccoy
i really thought mccoy was easily the 2nd best qb in the nation, behind kellen moore of boise st who is still in college. though i hate to say it, when i found out mccoy is 6’1, that changed my thinking. i know a smaller qb can win big, but really, what are the chances? i think drew brees will be a 1st ballot HoF by the time he retires. but he’s the exception on smaller qbs, not the rule.
My dark horse for the Panthers (and I've been touting it since last year) is Max Hall
Hall had a less than impressive senior season, but is a very solid QB in my mind. He was projected as a early 2nd rounder heading into the 2009 season, now he could likely be had for a 5th or 6th rounder.
He is smaller than the archetypal QB at 6’1", 201 lb… but he’s insanely accurate. Here are his college career stats:
YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2007 298 496 3848 60.1 7.76 66 26 12 20 137.71
2008 330 478 3957 69.0 8.28 76 35 14 20 156.88
2009 275 409 3560 67.2 8.70 80 33 14 22 160.13

Delhomme's release
I was agreeing with those that thought picking a QB in the 3rd was a bit high, but with jake’s release a 3rd could be a good spot to pickup a QB.
I like Hall or Crompton in the later rounds, along with Rusty Smith of FAU.
But Snead is my favorite in the third. He’s got size, arm, and smarts. He does need development, but I don’t think Moore will be bombing any time soon, so he’ll have loads of time on the bench. He was a projected top ten pick coming into the year, with a strong year he could have gone #1 overall. I think taking a chance on a talent like that in the third is smart, especially with Delhomme’s release.
As for McCoy, I wouldn’t touch him before the fifth. He has very little arm strength, not a fit for our offense. Arm strength isn’t the only thing you need to succeed, but it’s pretty darn hard to succeed without it.
