Scout.com is reporting that the Panthers have scheduled a private work out with Central Michigan QB Dan LeFavour:
Scout.com has learned that three teams, the Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans, are showing a strong interest in the former Chippewas signal caller - the Panthers and Bengals have scheduled a private workout with LeFevour, and the Titans are hosting him in Tennessee next month.
The Panthers must certainly be interested in the former Chippawa, but what pick might they be willing to use on him?
I could see the Panthers trading up with some of their late round picks or even a 2011 pick (not a 1st) to get the fleet-footed QB. Yes, I say fleet-footed because this kid can not only throw, he can run:LeFevour received mixed reviews from his Pro Day; scouts want to see him improve his footwork in his drops and throwing the deep ball. But a lot of LeFevour’s flaws are correctable, and it won’t prevent teams from taking him in the late second, early third round.
Interestingly enough, LeFevour and Young share a prestigious NCAA milestone; they’re the only two quarterbacks in NCAA history to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.
I find him intriguing in that his selection would cement the Panthers plans at QB for the next half-decade if not more. Certainly Matt Moore will be given his chance to lead the Panthers for next couple seasons. A player like LeFevour would be allowed several seasons to mature and learn the system.
The question is what round might the Panthers consider him a value pick? Thoughts?
