Peppers' Parting Shots? Going After Fox, Beason, and Gamble?
I am not sure if anyone has read this already, but I found it quite interesting. Our old friend Pat Yas wrote this up soon after Pep signed with the Bears. Some of the key parts imply that he does not consider John Fox a good or top defensive coach, he does not think very highly of the players on the defense (really? Beason, Davis, Gamble, Hitman, Marshall, Johnson, Brown?), and that he is now willing to be a leader.
I have said it many times before, but I really do not come close to understanding Pep. I would love to hear/read some thoughts on this.
PS - I know he is no longer a Panther, but it is a slow time in the off-season, I found this very thought provoking and it directly relates to the Panthers.

Alternate take on press conference...
"Getting to a comfortable place with a deep-rooted tradition in winning is a great thing for me, a wonderful thing for me,’’ Peppers said. They did win a Super Bowl 9 years before the Panthers were granted a franchise, maybe that’s what he meant.
“Coaching was the thing I wanted to come here for,’’ Peppers said. "Coach (Lovie) Smith is a defensive-minded coach. Coach (Rod) Marinelli is regarded as one of the best defensive line coaches in the league.’’ Sounds much better at a press conference than the translation: I came here because they offered me the most money over the longest length of time
"I understand the situation,’’ Peppers. "If that’s something that I have to do, which it seems like it will be, then I’m fine with it. It’s not something I can’t do. It’s just something I chose not to.’’ Again the translation: Don’t expect me to put on some dog and pony show for you folks, I’m going to play about half the downs, get my stats, and cash my checks
Good riddance. He’s gone, goodbye, so long, adios, au revior, arrivederci, auf wiedersehen, etc.
i remember this "im the first panther to go to a pro bowl"
please you were the 31st pro bowl seletion. that doesnt count for anything.
its people like this i want to just go up to and punch in the face.
it doesn't matter
think about if Pep wanted to stay in carolina and cried when he left, would it matter? my question is this, if we paid him $20 million in one season, what would he have to do to be worth the money, and what team success would be necessary? Let me give you an example, James Harrison was the NFL Defensive MVP on a Superbowl team, and he returned an interception in that Superbowl for 100 yds and a TD. Was HE worth $20 mil that year? I would say yes. If we’re willing to spend $20 mil on one player, we should do whatever it takes to make that one player a QB who’s worth $20 mil, not a DE. Pep is overpaid and will have a great year in chicago, and then fade into the background.
Pat Y is reading so much into that
He has to say something other than his real reason…“I wanted more money”…
So this quote is a back-handed slap at Beason and Co.
"The great players they have on the defense where I could come in and be a missing piece to help this defense return to dominance,’’ Peppers said when asked why he wanted to come to the Bears.
I’m not buying it. Pep isn’t that bright. He’s just complimenting his new team mates

What a coincidence Pat...
You don’t think the Panthers D is very good, and I don’t think your sports writing is very good.
Lets play a game I like to call resumes, shall we?
Lovie Smith- 52-44 career record (0.537)
John Fox- 68-52 career record (0.566)

Well said James
What in the hell was Patty boy watching in the last quarter of last season? The Panthers’ defense had become (over the last 4 game stretch..)..one of the league’s premiere defenses,
The Cats were virtually shutting teams down! AND THAT WAS WITH BACKUPS IN KEY PLACES! Now to attribute that to crappy teams with nothing to play for….
Not buying it…How about the Vikings who were trying to get into a position to possibly lockup the NFC home field playoff advantage??? Had the Vikings won and Saints loss that scenario may have been more than enough to get the Vikes to the superbowl!
The Panthers – Vikes score was 26-7…How many other teams BEAT DOWN THE VIKINGS THAT WAY IN 2009? Huh, Pat? I cannot hear you? Were the Vikings not one of the top 3 or 4 teams in football and an offensive powerhouse? Yet the Cats destroyed, torched and demoralized them!
Poor Peppers, boo hoo…He wants to be a contrarian….I have meet him just a few very times…While mannerly and polite…There was no conversation unless he felt something had to be said. To say he is a man of few words is a joke….No words maybe….Really, from an outsider looking in…I think Carl Carey (some of this is good for Peppers) took Peppers under his wing at UNC and basically told him to trust nobody. Peppers does measure his words, when he speaks….or he thinks out what he wants to say before he talks or he remains quite and aloof.
If Chicagoans think they have another Urlacher type…in there reving up the team…well they are in for a surprise.
Peppers has been very fortunate to hot have been visited by the injury bug…I hope it does not happen…However, could you imagine if Hurney and Fox tagged him at 21 mil and then had him tear an acl in week one! One player is not worth all of that.
The draft is loaded with receivers and there are a few very raw, large, yet very physical, prototypical defensive ends this year (can anyone say a 6’7 SC defensive end in the latter rounds) and trust me, you will see at least one of each, a wr/de in Carolina and there is a sad chance Tony Pike may wind up in Charlotte…Anyone remember Brian Kelly benching him for interceptions last season? That was at college speed! He could be Jake 4.0.
